9MM Options in Canada

Hello CGN,

I am a relatively new recreational pistol shooter looking for a little advice. I did a search but there wasn't anything specifically on point that I could find. If a thread exists already, happy to read that if a link is provided.

Of the ammunition available to Canadians, I am wondering what 9MM ammunition the forum would recommend for a Glock 19/17 owner. I am not sure if my pistols prefer 115 over 124 grain ammunition as they seem to be OK with both although I haven't tried many different brands. So far I have used the 115 grain Remington UMC and Browning FMJ varieties. I am looking at the bulk options so I really do not want to get stuck with 1000+ rounds that I may not like. The prices range from $370 to $420 and I currently see the following available:

PMC (115 & 124)
S&B (115 & 124)
Fiocchi (115)
Federal Independence (115)
CCI Blazer (115)

There is also STV Scorpio available as the most inexpensive option but I am not sure that is a recommended option from the little I have read.

I also have a G44 and was wondering if anyone has a bulk preference. I have found that my pistol is not a big fan of the Federal Auto Match (40 / 1200) thus far.

Thank you in advance.

If you’re a new pistol shooter buy the cheapest factory ammo you can get in bulk out of your listed 5, your gun will shoot better than you can at this stage lol. I prefer 124gr personally but I don’t find any pistol I own shoots lighter or heavier bullets any better than the other, especially in 9mm. Get the most value for your money and shoot lots, if you haven’t already done so take a class or get some solid instruction on pistol shooting fundamentals from someone that knows what they’re doing. I wish I had done that right away when I got my first handgun, instead of blasting away for a year trying to learn on my own and watching YouTube videos.

I like S&B, federal, blazer all go bang and are good factory ammo.

Thanks, gents.

I have taken a few classes and I have signed up for the IPSC Black Badge training. My main concern is spending the cash on 2K rounds and potentially getting something my pistols do not like. None of the ammo I have used so far is one of the bulk options.

I own two G17s (gen 3 and 5) and a g34 (gen 4)
They have all been fed thousands of rounds of various 115 and 124 gr bulk ammo. They eat everything without a problem. I mostly have CCI blazer (brass casing) as that’s what was cheapest last time I purchased.
As others have said find a sale on some bulk, purchase lots and enjoy

Buy cheap ammo and practice lots. I've shot thousands of rounds of 9mm and at typical pistol distances (20 yards and less at my local range) I can't notice the difference on steel plate shooting regardless of what brand I'm shooting

Try the S&B 124 Grain . it's always worked well . had some CCI Blazer 115. wasn't impressed with the groups . always been happy with S&B. the guy on Youtube Hickok 45 said he has always found 124 Grain hit to point of aim better then any other weight. that man is one hell of a shot. I usually fast forward through his videos . lots of talking . but a great shot at that . I was looking up the Scorpio stuff one time . I think it's loaded to a lower velocity .
