Admitedly, I'm new at this "yote callling business. And I must admit to having been somewhat jealous at these guys that can use electronic calls. I've gotten into the game here in Alberta with mouth calls since last year. I felt like I was the worst coyote hunter ever. Two days ago, my patience paid off. My first "call in" and I got a "double". Yes, two "yotes on a single call. Man did I feel the king. Bringing them in from a long ways away and then getting a double, which BTW is bonus....boy oh boy, I'm hooked on huntin' 'yotes on the call. Makes me feel ...well, like the great white hunter. The bonus was that the Hutterites to whom I gave the coyotes to gave me a box of home made doughnuts for my efforts. Imagine that...being rewarded for such a great time afield....life is good indeed. :):):):):):):)

The bonus to me is that rather than riding the recumbent bike, which is awfull boring, I can now get out and stretch my legs, get the old ticker a' pumpin in preparation for elk season and doing something I enjoy.

Any comments as to how 'yote hunting just makes your life better????

what sounds were you using???

I called in my first coyote 2 weekends ago. Was using JS pc-3 rabbit distress hand call for about 15 minutes. Just got up to go home ( about 300 yards from my house). I get about 200 yards from my house and theres a coyote standing at my pond looking straight at me. He takes off and I dropped to my knees and start ripping my backpack and gun off my shoulder. I end up sticking the gun barrel in the snow in the process. I start doing pup distress and he stops about 100 yards away looking at me. I unload the gun and start digging the barrel out with a stick. I'm in pure panic/excitment mode. The coyote has no cover for about 400 yards each way but he manages to get to the tree line soon as I get the gun loaded again.

I found out that this coyote did the biggest circle job on me ever. Circled downwind just out my view about 800 yards away and smellt me then took off the way he came, thats when i seen him. Never got a shot off and I was pretty pissed but owell, Atleast i know my calling is working :)

Well done!
big open spaces can be a double edged sword. You can get them trapped in the open of you out smart them or they miss your scent. However they are not stupid and will try their best to circle around and catch your scent. The bigger the open space the farther away they will circle.
