Wich rifle would you buy in 2023 to build on?

It could be an option. I always wonder how much and how a custom action impact accuracy?

Custom actions won't affect the accuracy (unless the factory action is wildly outta spec/true). Accuracy is all in the barrel, ammo, and action chassis/stock interface. Custom action are nice in that they are generally smoother than factory actions and more often than not these days are built to a tight enough spec that you can just order up prefit shouldered barrels for them. If building off a factory rifle, your best bet is a Rem 700 or Tikka as they both have good aftermarket support (the 700 more so than the Tikka). I'd get either a used Tikka or 700 SA (depending on what you can find a good price on), have someone like Insite spin you up a new barrel (they do Tikka prefits) and drop it in an MDT XRS and you'll have a real nice setup for a very reasonable price.

Rem 700 or 783. The 783 continues to be my fave factory action to build a LR tack driver. The HB version is the best of breed.... look for the factory oversized bolt knob as a clue. Swap out the firing pin spring as that is a common flaw from Rem.

What firing pin spring do you suggest? And where to get one?
My 783HB has the odd light primer strike, other than that it’s a great budget tack driver.
Thanks.

The 700 is still the strongest, safest 2 locking lug action ever made... and the 700 action has been used to make very accurate builds since it first came out and continues to do so. My choice for sure.

Im looking for a new rifle in 6.5 creed for target shooting and I was thinking about going for a tikka super varmint. I was wondering what other option I should consider for about 2k that I could expand on.

I was going with a Bergara Premiere with a very smooth and slick action, no slop with the bolt unlike the Tikka but I still have a soft spot for the Remington 700.

Just pick up a new production (RAR serial#) 700 Police LTR w/5R barrel and shoots sub MOA with the ammo I feed it including my handload for my Tikka. The locking lug contact is about 85 - 90% based on the wear marks on the lugs. Very very minimal fore and aft movement with the bolt , not cocked.. My 16" SPS Tactical reg. 6 groove barrel with a RR serial# has about 55 - 60% lug contact with quite a bit of fore and aft bolt movement.

My new production 700 will be the build platform.

With a $2k budget I would start with a Tikka T3X or a Bergara B14 HMR for a factory option.

The HMR or HMR Pro is the default r/longrange recommendation for getting in to long range shooting, it's mini-chassis design is more rigid than the Tikka. But the trigger isn't quite as nice IMO. The flip side is it takes Rem 700 accessories so the aftermarket options are more considerable.

If you're looking to build, I would start with a used Rem700 and an aftermarket barrel.

I have everything to do it and it’s my favourite cartridge this platform will have no problem with 280 ai ,thx Kelly

Kelly Like you I really like 280 AI cartridge and I have one custom HVA Benchmark Wildcat stocked one . BUT with a 2.525 brass lenght what bullets are you planning on using and are you using stock Tikka mags ? I was going to build one on a T3 but the Barnes LRX and TTSX bullets really limit my COAL with tikka mags and greatly interfere into powder space . Looking for some acknowledgment from you Please . RJ

I’m going to start with factory bottom metal and factory mags and go from there .
Planning on cup and core bullets 140 to 162 grain .. nothing fancy!
I still have to drop the barreled action off at the smith.,Kelly

I am in the same predicament currently and watching this intently. I am leaning towards the HMR but also considering a Howa HCR. My preference is a barrel I can fit a brake out of the box though. Looking to get to a long distance range in Kitchener area soon.
