PAL required to buy ammo?

...........and pay the exorbitant shipping fees so that you can remain anonymous?

Select your out of province vendors based on availability, price, shipping cost
Many vendors across Canada offer free or reasonable shipping during sales events, so stock up when you can.

Paying for anonymity is something some people see as value.

Personally I don't care if they record the info

Maybe someone has "Contacts" in one of the 'major' online vendors, and can find out if the Feds are actually getting info from dealers? Like having access to their records, or getting downloads of sales records, or such ?
All I have nearby is a B-ass Pro with a poor selection of ammo, so I buy ON if I can't find GP 'Deals'. :(

One of the first businesses to overstep and ask for a PAL to buy magazines, barrels, stocks was Questar.
Where are they now ? LOL

The "Feds" can't access the Ontario information without permission. Under Section 4 of Ammunition Regulation Act, only the provincial CFO, or someone authorized by them, can examine the records.

Yep, and as evidence that this tactic/mindset works...China sat to discuss economic relations with Biden this week. The Chinese are feeling the west's economic withdrawal. Keep up the good work, don't elect politicians who disagree with your views. Don't finance or ally with your enemies, know that you have many, and know who they are.

Agree with the sentiments here. It befuddles me how some retailers are going way beyond what they are legally supposed to do in capturing people's information. There was one retailer in particular, that even before the whole May 2022 new reference number system, used to ask people who were buying firearms and ammo for a photocopy of their PAL and their driver's licence. I was floored by how many people willingness went along with this, some unaware that this was not the law. I am amazed at reading some Canadian Tires recorded one's address in that paper book.

Unfortunately Ontario has the old NDP government of the early 1990s to thank for the additional information capture requirements. Ever since I got my PAL in 2004, all stores recorded only the PAL info in their ledger. In the earlier years, I bought a lot from LeBaron and except for shotgun ammo flats, all the ammo was behind the counter at cash. The lady just took out the journal, hand-wrote my name and PAL number, along with what I bought ammo wise, and off I went. No one from the government ever checked that book.

I envy the other provinces that don't have this record keeping practice. I generally go to one or two places for my ammo purchases if I have to buy retail, my preference being the one retailer that still hand writes it - because I love dealing with that fellow (I try to get him when I can) who either has naturally woeful penmanship, or deliberately obfuscates through his chicken scratches of my name and PAL number, to make it barely legible.
