antique .44 shotgun

ok I can not get photobucket to work thismorning, so here I go very fine very small ladies shotgun I think. exposed hammers, Damascus bbles, looks like a Belgian made gun no markings to speak of but very well made. trigger guard is tiny I can just get my finger in for the second trigger.

now I got it from and old fella , says it wont shoot . ok what are you trying to shoot in it? .410 will fit in it but I'm sure that's wrong. fireing pins have both been broken off. the forcing cone is about 1.5 inches up. now ive seen these before at gunshows once in a while, I think .44 shot cartridge. I cant find any info on it online.
anyone shed any light on this? I know its hard without pics

the commercially made 44-40 shells stamped 44 GG had a round ball crimped in, while the shotshells I think said 44-40 and the shell was longer as I recall and the end was coned with a card wad to keep the shot in. I can remember 44-40 shot shells being commercially available in the 1960s or perhaps a bit later and they had a blue plastic end filled with shot but the end was rounded in my memory

if a 410 shell will fit the chamber, except for length, it may be chambered for a 2" version of the 410. you might want to see if a 444 Marlin shell will fit the chamber, or better yet try taking a chamber cast with parafin wax. Pull a cloth patch or something to plug the bore ahead of the chamber. and fill the chamber with wax and mike the result. I would suggest tieing a piece of cotton string to the patch so that if the wax cast breaks while you are removing it, the pieces are held together

I have the identical piece and was just going to cut down .410 cases and reload those. Another when I get around to it project.
