I'm obviously doing something wrong.

I put a rigger lock on my SVT a few months ago and it snapped the safety wing off. SO I'm trying to get the trigger group out to get the new safety switch installed.

For some gawd-damned reason I just cant get the trigger group to come out. I've got the little rear facing leaf open and am trying to depress the trigger release... it goes a few milimetres, but the trigger group just wont loosen.

Is there some little trick I'm missing?

If I recall the hammer has to be cocked before the trigger group release lever will depress all the way?

Thanks for the advice guys. I did indeed follow the instructions on Surplus rifle, but I guess I was being too gentle. The concensus is to beat the hell out of it with a mallet then eh?

Lemme give her another try.

Worked like a charm. I guess last night I just needed a bit more patience and brute force.

ONly ####ty thing is that the new safety wing is the newer design, my old one would flip both ways, but this on only goes one. Oh well... we'll take her out for a spin this weekend and see if she's still got it. I havn't fired the rifle in about a year since my trigger lock broke the safety wing off.

Thanks for the help fellas.

Swings both ways? Hey whatever works for you and your rifle buddy....I just don't want to know about your ### life. Seriously though...its not supposed to swing both ways. That should have been your first clue that something was wrong. It should only swing from the left side of the rifle and stop at the bottom behind the trigger, and of course go back. Thats it.

Yea the AVT had the lever that swung one way for semi and the other for auto. When they stopped producing the AVT they used left over parts on the SVT's, stocks safeties etc. Before it broke, my SVT had an AVT safety on it, when swung in either direction it allowed for semi-auto fire. It was quite usefull for my one friend who's a leftie, the one-way SVT safety is a real prick to use with the left hand.

Just so you know I'm not pulling all of this out of my ass, I got my info from Vic on gunboards ;)
