So after some thinking and due to budget reasons I decided to just take a chance and buy a su16e

Just a question for those who own a su16e, what are some ammo do you guys recommend to use it for, along with aftermarket parts?

Good choice, it's an excellent rifle within its niche. They are not known to be particularly picky about ammo, but stick with typical 55gr if you want to be on the safe side (steel case is another matter).

Currently, many of them are sold without a magazine, but aside from that it shouldn't need anything out of the box. I think they generally have a reputation for running well with a variety of mags.

If you're mounting an optic, there's not much rail space to work with. Depending on what you're trying to do, you may need a cantilever mount. Optic height can throw you off because the stock tube is lower than a typical AR.

If you want to put a sling on it, it will need some kind of forward attachment point.

The buttstock is easy to swap if you want something that looks or feels different (should be a commercial spec tube).

If you plan to use the folding feature a lot, some people replace the stock takedown pin with a wire lock pin of the correct length and diameter.

Keltec owners forum has lots of info.
It performed flawlessly with any ammo I used.
You could get the pistol grip stock and forend kit for around $300 , this was pre covid pricing though.

I had a flash hider reamed out, pinned and epoxied on and held up .

I have been thinking about getting one of these as well! Let me know what you think of it as its price has me considering jumping in on it

OP, the other issue I forgot to mention is that field stripping is a problem if you want to use a longer optic (like a typical hunting/target scope, or one of the longer LPVOs).

As far as I know, there's no great solution to this: You have to remove the optic in order to get the bolt carrier / recoil spring tube assembly out. Watch a disassembly video and you'll immediately see what I mean.

Personally, I don't use my SU16 as a high volume shooter, so it's a non-issue. But if you do, and if you also want to use a longer optic, then it could be an issue.

About the same now, last time I checked. But the OP is going for the SU16E, which is the tactical version with the pistol grip.

Just saw that G4C has the SU16E on for $1000. And Great North Guns has the SU16F for $800. Both are great prices, and by most accounts the recent production units have the bugs worked out.

I purchased one a few years back . Wanted a cheap semi in 223/5'56 . Didn't have high expectations. Quirky design but the price was right. This thing shoots! Ultra light, ar mags, and it folds.can be a pain to reassemble after cleaning. Great for carrying around or plinking.

I bought it on g4c, I was told that it has the lifetime warranty and its actually the su16FE not the su16e there was a mislabel. The FE is meant for us

Update, Rifle arrived today in the mail. Going to test it out on the weekend if I get the time. Will need to get a red dot for it

Put an Eotech 512 on mine to upset my friends. It runs great, but you can over-insert the cross-mags if you're excitable. Runs any ammo I put in it. I've never had magnification on it, but it seems accurate enough to hit 8" plates at 100m standing with ease.

I was initially having failure to extract issues with mine. I have since replaced the extractor with one from an AR15, and it has been chuggin' right along ever since. Slapped a Zhukov forend on it, and mounted up a light. Incredibly light rifle the wife takes out with her at night when she checks the chickens.

I was having some failure to feed issues with my reloads, switched to using SB dies and feeding was great after that.
Great lightweight rifle. Might not be as strong and durable as an AR but is a lot of fun.

Anyone find the stock to be very uncomfortable? Its just hard plastic with no rubber pad.

What are my options here? Would any standard AR stock work?

Swapping buttstocks is extremely common on all rifles with the AR-style buffer tube designs. Manufacturers typically put economy-grade buttstocks on those rifles since it's so easy to change and everyone has their own personal preference. You have tons of options, but you have to know if your buffer tube is commercial-spec or mil-spec (they have different diameters).

Last I heard, the SU16E were being made with a commercial spec "buffer tube" (the tube doesn't actually function as a buffer tube for this rifle, but it's the common name for the part). Easy to verify for your rifle, just measure the outside diameter of the tube. (or, maybe your existing stock will be marked commercial or milspec)

The tube measurement is 1.148” and the end of the tube is flat, so Im pretty sure its mil-spec.

Thanks for the help! Now time to hunt for a butt stock that has a good pad on the back.
