Found an keymod accessory attached to a rifle I bought secondhand. Anyone know what it is?

It’s for a quick detachable sling.

Do rifles generally come with sling swivels?

Many of the used commercial rifles that I bought did not have sling swivels on them, but had the Quick Detach studs installed. Is several slings here that came with the Quick Detach sling loops sewn on the sling. Contrarily, most milsurp bolt actions should have had sling loops on them - many did not arrive here, that way. Over the years, slings came in many widths - I have a Parker Hale sling about 2" (5 cm) wide - it needs that size loops, but same size attachment on the rifle. Is also slings here 1" (2.5 cm) wide and 1 1/4" (3.2 cm) wide - each width of sling likely needs their appropriate sized sling loop, but most sling loops seem to attach to same thing on the rifle stock.

And if your sling has "shepherd hook" style sling loops, is not likely to attach to a rifle with QD studs - if your sling has QD loops, is not likely to attach to the "fish eye" studs found on some older sporters. Most older military guns were supplied or used one type of sling - so they could standardize the loop size and install on the rifle - modern customers of commercial guns get "choices", however.

I am using that word "sling" in a general sense - I think most here are correctly called "carry straps", although there are a few target shooting slings, here. I am aware of, but do not own a type of target shooting sling that clips onto the shoulder /sleeve of a shooting jacket, as well. They are not the same thing. Was an old-time thing to do a funky wrap with a "carry strap" for more precise shooting - that was referred to as a "hasty sling" - but I think that was more a way of using it, rather than a specific item.
