Ruger 28 gauge value

Regional problem. Today I was looking at shotshell selection Cold Lake, Canadian Tire.
Zero 410 birdshot. Four boxes of 28 gauge birdshot.
 
I’m not going to get hurt feelings over anything on Gunnutz. I simply asked for opinions and seen a wide variety. I’m not selling the gun so the value is just conversational and I was curious. I’ve wanted a 28 gauge for a while and ended up with this one. Nice quick upland bird gun imo. The yanks are crazy when it comes to firearms and a totally different market for sure!! I’ve had no problem securing ammo and it’s far more reasonable than the 410 prices lately. Shot it Sunday and definitely need to remove the spacer in the stock. Way too long with winter shooting clothes. Hung up on mounting more than once but I couldn’t bring myself to pre mount before calling for the bird! Fun though anyway and ended up with an old gentleman originally from Montreal showing up with a gun to sell. 1976 Browning Citori skeet with 28” barrels, the gun looked like the day it was made and had hardly ever been shot. Was his spare when he was shooting. He sold it for $750 to a member who was quite happy! Being in the rite place at the rite time!

While 28 gauge factory loads are available, they are quite limited in selection and expensive compared to the 20 gauge. I shoot the 28 gauge myself, but I bought a few flats of hunting loads a few years and still have over a flat left, and I have over 4000 hulls that I load for skeet. It's going to hurt my wallet, when those hulls need to be replaced. If I was starting out today the 20, gauge would be much more appealing, ammunition wise.

I'm not so sure it's regional, I have no problem getting 28 through the clubs that I belong to and I shot quite a few rounds of it in the last year but in general it's not as plentiful as it was and it's getting expensive. 410 on the other hand is very hard to get anywhere and stupidly expensive if you do find it.

I don't think anyone is trying to hurt your feelings and I'm happy for you that you got a good deal on a shotgun that you really like, I'm sure it will serve you well!
 
I bought my Ruger Red Label 28ga straight grip with 28" barrels coming on 27 years ago for $1189 retail from my friends gunshop. Came with beautiful burl in the butt, ive killed more partridge year in and year out. I've shot so much Remington and winchester 7/8 onze #5 and 6's, that the rib has just started to loosen this hunting season.(after thousands of hunting loads)
For those who don't think much of them, that's great more for those true upland game hunters, it is one of the most pointable small bore I've had a pleasure to hunt with.
Great find on a lightning fast handling pretty shotgun my friend!!

Although I have been hunting upland birds of all types (except quail) for well over 50 years I have never used a Red Label.
Westley Richards, Greener, BSA, Franchi, Berreta, Winchester, Remington, Parker, LC Smith,in fact I have probably used more than 30 different brands of shotguns of all types and ignition.
Maybe one day I will discover a Red Label and realize I was not a true upland hunter all these years, but I doubt it very much, since I was hunting winged critters well before the Red Label's inception!Laugh2

No offence to other hunters and there favorite upland gun, I have not found myself a 28ga that fit me so well, and enjoyable to carry gun. I could care less what the name on the barrel says, as long as the quality and the enjoyment it brings. Wish I had a chance for a vintage British 28ga choked tight, but alas one has not found its way home with me. Enjoy the end of the partridge season my friends, cheers, Dale Z
