Cellular trail cams

Have/had 4 spypoint micros, one died, one stolen, 2 still work after 3 years. I really appreciate 100 free pics a month plan. I will probably continue to get spypoint replacements when on sale mostly because I think I overall save money on free subscriptions that others don't offer. Have probably a 1/2 dozen broken non cell cameras in a box that I am going to sprinkle around the property as decoys for the thiefs while the functional cams take their pictures.

Just an update on SpyPoint. For those of you not following, I received a faulty camera. I received a replacement after a frustrating month (I am easily frustrated). The new camera has been out 2 weeks and works fine. The hunting season is over for myself but hopefully it will work as advertised for preseason scouting next year.

I also picked up several of the Cell Links as they were practically giving them away and I have many cheap cameras to pair them with. One of the Cell Links was DOA but after just a few minutes on chat the replacement was on it's way. It and the others work as advertised and I am happy.

The pictures sent are not the greatest but can easily determine what you are looking at. You can also request HD and they are adequate to rough score a buck in most instances. You get a bunch of free HD. I upgraded by joining the "Club" and get 250 pictures per camera and a whole pile of extra HD upgrades.

I am content enough to have ordered a few other models for Christmas gifts but they will be thoroughly tested before the scouting season. As mentioned earlier, I have a couple of the ForcePro 30s and the video is Nat Geo quality and the cameras work flawlessly.

Guys , thanks for all the info and recommendations.

Question that has not been asked , if it has, I missed it.

Hiw do you connect to a net work? Do you contact your phone provider, do you contact the manufacturer and use a plan they have. What accessories do I need to buy before I hit the field with one.

I'm new to this cell trail camera stuff , any info is appreciated.

For the tacticam, it's as simple as install the sim card that comes with it, and in the app when you set up your account, take a photo of the QR code on the camera.

It let's you pick a plan, and you're off to the races.

Very simple.

I'm sure most are a similar setup online, where you can type in the number on the provided Sim card.

Spypoint has different plans available, you deal with them and not the phone provider. SIM cards are pre installed in the cameras that I bought.

Strongly suggest you get a model with the built in solar battery charger and lithium battery.

Regards

So, even though we're in Canada and you buy tactacam , you deal with them and that's it ?

That is correct. I believe all of them are pretty simple. I really like the SpyPoint App and plans. You get the app and register for free on the SpyPoint website. You automatically get 100 free pictures for every device you set up. You can upgrade to 250 pics for $5, 1000 pics for $10 or unlimited for $15. You can also join the club and for $100 yearly you get 250 pics a month for every device and 20% off any upgrades.

Anyway, once you have the app loaded and you are registered, you are good to go. With SpyPoint you scan the QR code, you push format, it formats the SD card and connects to the website. There is a test button you can push and it will send you a pic to make sure all is good.

It is very addictive. I enjoy the cameras as much as actually hunting. It is very much like setting traps or snares.

Got this picture of a cool buck yesterday. He is new to one of the quarters I hunt and I am excited to see more of him. This image was sent to me using a SpyPoint Cell Link hooked to a cheap Amazon camera.

My flex hasn’t been reliably sending pictures all deer season. Also had tracks right in front of the cam a few times on med sensitivity with nothing on sd card and batteries still had juice. Tried long format, new filmware, long format and new filmware on a second sd card, new batteries, new antenna. Someone on spypoint group suggested deleting the app, gave that a go too with no improvement. Guess calling spypoint is in the cards.

I don’t expect these things to be 100%, but this season I’m not sure it functioned properly 25% of the time.

Hope to have it fixed next month for wolf season. Need it to be fixed or replaced for spring bear.

Are you using a Spypoint SD card? I started off using a Sandisk brand and had nothing but problems. Wouldn’t reliably take photos, sent lots of empty photos. Once I got a Spypoint card it started working flawlessly.

I believe both are spypoint cards. It went from mostly flawless operations, to mostly working, to occasionally working, to not really working at all now. Not sure if that’s relevant or not. At least the season is over now and it’s home. Makes it a little less frustrating to deal with.

I found the best way to communicate is through the online chat. I would get on it as it was a full month before they finally sent me a replacement camera. You need to have the camera in hand and they run you through a series of tests so they are not just sending cameras to people that have a fixable issue. I have some of the SpyPoint SD cards in the non cellular cameras but am running Scandisk in 4 Flex cameras and they have been running well.

I've been researching these for my in-laws, this seems to be the best photo cell camera, that uses the least amount of data.

Those are manufactured by SPYPOINT. Not sure way data use is a concern. Most are number of pics allowed. I haven’t looked at vosker plans but SPYPOINT is 100 free per month others have a monthly fee based on number of pics
