Does anyone know who is dealing with Ruger warranty in Canada now? Or if its even worth it to submit a claim? I know warranty can be a pain in the a$$ for firearm related issues.

Anyways, First time out with Ruger Gunsite scout, and 20 rounds later the stock cracked in two spots, Gun was brand new used, so no taking it back to original dealer. I saw this happen on YouTube in a video as well, but couldn't find any other instances online, So thought maybe it was a one off, Apparently not.
The rusty looking stuff at the rear of the bolt is just oil incase anyone is wondering.

I had this same issue with the identical rifle/config. My warranty took two months and was easy/no questions asked. Can’t remember the name of the place but I can look back into my emails if you needed.

It’s a known thing, if you don’t torque the stock to the action properly the recoil meeting any play causes it.

I thought the original stock for the Ruger GSR was a grey laminate??? Did the original owner change out the stock to a standard walnut??

The laminate stocks are usually stronger and a bit heavier than walnut.

The 450BM came in walnut stocks, that's what this is.

that would be awesome, I'll email gravel here as well.

Right so I checked my emails, I used snap shots (reluctantly because I read some reviews that were less than grand) but it was super strait forward. I emailed to inquire, explained I bought the gun used and didn’t have a receipt or anything, I was quickly received with clear instructions on sending photos of the damage, and equally and quickly was instructed it was covered entirely, I just had to pay to ship it to them. I mailed it second week of February 2021 and had it back by my birthday in mid April the same year, no trouble or additional costs, basically it was all waiting for Ruger to have a stock to send them.

Never had an issue after that, he explained the walnut stocks are particular about being torqued to spec on the action bolts, which I did and still hasn’t cracked again to this day.

Ruger actually has a zero warranty policy...look it up, they offer zip after sale, nothing.
But...they do seem to come clean way better then a lot of companies with warranties, at least in the US, hopefully that carries over to Canada.
Lots of good stories of them making things right down south.

I had warranty repairs made to my Ruger SR1911. The front site broke off -- twice. It was made from sintered metal (MIM manufacturing process) and was prone to breaking when the slide would heat up and expand during shooting. The final fix (has worked for years now) is that they acutally used a milled piece of metal for the front site.

On the Ruger website they list "Gravel Agency Inc" as their Canadian Repair Station, so you might try them:

In my case, Ruger told me to use another company -- Location Snap Shots Inc. The support I got from Ruger was incredibly good. My communication with Location Snap Shots was laconic, at best, but they were efficient and got things done within a reasonable period, both times. If that Gravel Agency doesn't pan out, you can always try contacting Location Snap Shots. Maybe they still do Ruger Warranty work ... I don't know.

Good luck!

That would be my guess as well. Visible gap at the rear tang.

I was actually able to push the chip back into the place where it was, and it closes the gap to where it originally was, Originally looked fine, Obviously it still wasn't done correctly, there must be forward and rearward play during recoil. lockup felt tight otherwise, I never had it out of the stock so I never torqued it to whatever spec is recommended.

I sent and Email to gravel, They are not back in the office until Jan 4th, I'll be eager to see what they say! thanks for all the input guys.

Please let us know what they say. I've only seen that type of damage twice in the 3 decades I've owned Ruger rifles. Both times, the rifles needed to be re-stocked after re-loaders tried "tweeking" their loads. To me,it looks like that's what's happened with this used rifle. The fits are really bad. Factory rifles and shotguns just don't come out of the build process in that condition. They'd never leave the plant looking like that.

When talking with Ruger a few years back they asked a specific question.
Did you shoot reloads?
If you answer "yes", they will not do anything for you.

So always respond with the negative.

Let us know how you make out.

These were just Hornady 245gr american white tail. Haven't built up enough brass to reload for it yet. Be curious to see what they say.

That would be my guess as well. Visible gap at the rear tang.

The gap is needed. it prevents cracks at the tang. Most rifles nowadays have the gaps at the tang.

It's possible the crack was due to the action screw (recoil lug) not tight enough. Ruger's torque specs specifies the screw is to be torqued at 95 pounds. I never achieved that. I torque my Rugers to about 60 pounds. If your action screw was tight enough, then the crack was due to poor bedding of the action to the stock, at the recoil lug, allowing movement of the action into the wood at the tang, when fired.
