About a month ago I ordered some ammunition from a CGN sponsor shop. They had a good selection available and they are within the same province (at least).

Here is my order (on Boxing Day) - Area 419 Universal Flat Arcalock 12" Rail (853675008969) x 1, Arken Optics EP5 5-25x56mm FFP MIL VPR Reticle with Zero Stop – 34mm Tube (EP5-5251VPR) x 1, MDT 34mm Premier Scope Rings 1.25" High (709951103784) x 1, Area 419 Arcalock QD Clamp (810080182080) x 1, MDT GRND-POD RRS Dovetail Mount Standard Bipod (682157403554) x 1 shipped via Canada Post on December 27, 2023 with tracking number. With tax and shipping = $1,650 ish. I’m setting up a ‘production-class’ PRS .22lr.

Nothing was on sale that I was looking for. That’s my problem, I know. I figured a ‘free shipping, 5% off, or 10% off’ would show up on the payment page (being Boxing Day and having made purchases from them before…). It didn’t.

Under the comments section in the payment page I wrote something to the effect of: ‘could I ask for free shipping or some sort of discount? I know you’re not the cheapest but I’m trying to support your business anyway. Thoughts?’

No response, just[SUB][/SUB], ‘your order is shipped’.

Guess I should have ordered off Amazon (where possible), Cabelas (where possible), and another shop for the Arken Optic…. Won’t be ordering from there again. Fool me once…. I still have to purchase and accessorize an F-Class or Centrefire PRS Rifle, purchase ammo, get set up with reloading gear… I would rather find a private business to support over a big box store or Amazon…

So where are you loyal to, and why?

The only place that gives discounts that you seek is GoBigTactical. Never free shipping but if your shoot CRPS or pay with EMT you get some pesos deducted. Small stores can’t really eat the shipping.

FYI. My production rig is well over 3k before taxes. 457 ProVarmint. Money means nothing in this sport. Just make sure to have fun and have a good heart at these matches.

I happily support the sponsors of the matches I go to. I’m in BC and have recently started shooting rimfire PRS matches. Some local sponsors are MDT, IBI, Go Big Tactical, Apex Optics, etc.

I buy from them.
 
I run Bossgear.ca making shooting bags for prs. I don't really do many sales because honestly doing promos didn't really generate sales. It's a pretty niche product so that's likely why. Instead of doing frequent sales I've found that providing gift cards on prize tables at prs matches throughout the country is more beneficial to shooters, especially newer ones.

As others have pointed out, shipping is very expensive right now. I charge a flat rate and usually lose money on it.

If you didn't get a response it's probably because they are swamped with orders and may have just missed it.
 
PRS is an expensive sport. Occasionally you'l find a few things on sale at GoBig. But really, where you end up getting "good deals" are from the prize tables at the matches that are attended. Definitely 50% off Vortex products or MDT is always good for chassis's and notable certificate discounts. The lads at Spearhead Machine are absolutely awesome in their support with prizes and discounts... you'll never see any Area419 gear discounted ,but maybe donated to a prize table. $3K to $6 or $7K for a top end PRS .22 rifle is not uncommon for the folks that go "all in"... compition centrefire will start at a $4K min... but will end up close to $10K+ if you plan on loading your own ammo. (my 6BR is about $2K in brass, dies and components before I even start on the gun)... so $1650 is no small expense by any means, but its also pretty small for a retailer selling into this industry woth their 8%-15% margins....

I am only into the rifle for about $2400 so far, and recognize this as my entry-level production-class rifle. Unless I win the lottery, I can’t see goin ‘open class’ ($10- $15K). I will be going with an entry-level centrefire ‘PRS-Style’ rifle as well (and reloading).

Great point about approaching the events for fun, with a good heart. Always good advice.

I wouldn’t get all bent out of shape about your equipment. Good fundamentals and trigger time are what matters more. The better shooters are smooth and efficient because they practice. They could take any decent rifle and will still do very well. A mental checklist eliminates errors and helps with being fluid. Time is the maker or breaker on many stages and being smooth is fast. Practice and have fun and the rest will follow!
 
An Open rig can cost less then that... just depends on the level of bling you want.

As you gain experience in the game, you will see that shooters have a range of options to do the same thing... some cost alot, some cost alot less.

What you might find in some 'stores' is experience. That can go a long ways to solving the question of must haves vs nice to haves

Being handy with tools and basic fabrication can drop your cost of play by a ton.

But how much you spend is entirely up to you...

He does great work. It would be interesting to see match winners up here give production class gear a try again. I think I would go with CZ.
