Smith and Wesson M&P 15

That's doubtful, the reason we can't get them is that the US State Dept will not issue an export permit for that configuration without an end user certificate showing Law Enforcement or Government Agencies as the end user. Like many things these days, it's not that there's a problem here, the problem is that the US won't allow export. There are several good alternatives however, and we may be able to get shorter barrels in the near future from Europe, as usual we just need to be resourceful.

what would you consider to be "There are several good alternatives" ? Colt? bushmaser? armalite?

Armalite, Bushmaster, Colt, RRA, LMT are all great choices. IIRC the M&P15 was just a STAG (available from Arms East here in Canada) with the S&W laser etching.

Hey all intrested in the Smith and Wesson M&P 15 here is the answer i just got via email from S&W

M&P15's in its current configurations are not allowed to be exported to Canada by US State Dept. We are working on a special model that could be exported.

As I said before, S&W are still AR assemblers, not manufacturers! They're still good guns, as they're starting out with good parts, but I still wouldn't pay a premium for the laser engraved logo, when there are just as good or better rifles available right now at the same or lesser price points.

Two weeks ago I met with the Range Master of the Las Vegas Meto Police. They were one of the test agencies for the S&W AR's. S&W showered them with numerous free guns to promote and test their product.

Without providing specific details (they have several large binders of data) they are not impressed. The exact words were, the weapon is terrible, not reliable and has too many issues and problems to list or talk about. He also mentioned that the weapons broke and fell apart. Do not buy under any circumstances, I was warned. He also mentioned that they are not like the Colts.

Sorry to use this old thread but I thought you guys may be interested in hearing that Frontier Firearms is advertising the Smith and Wesson M&P15 for $1700 come February '09. Apologies if this has already been posted I did a quick search and couldn't find any announcements

Smith is now building in house.

Smith has a new midlenght system, and new gas block - all unique to Smith...

They are going to a 1:8 twist as well.

I wonder if 1:8 will split the difference, or prove to be generally awfull - common sense would say the former, but life experience tells me that the latter is a distinct possibility :D

Why are you assuming that S&W will be priced at a premium compared to Stag, Bushmaster, LMT, etc?
