Light budget rifle opinions

Ouch!

Not really held up as an example of a great mag either eh? Its why I always avoided their 7.62x39

It honesty really soured me on detachable mags. All my centerfire larger than 7.62x39 are floor plate. It’ll take a long time for me to come back around to detachable mags I think. I like old mausers way to much.

It’s been 4 mulie and two whitetail deep.

2 standard quartering shots through vitals with less than 20y between bang and flop(185 y and 225y) and 4 meat preserving headshots under 200y. Few coyotes that crossed the path as well.

Impact velocity is higher than the .308, meaning more reliable expansion for the given bullet, with deeper penetration… anyone wondering needs to look at 120gr-130gr bullets with Bc of .450+achieving more than 2450fps…

Experience and intelligence… then is no advantage normal hunting practices with detachable magazines that outweigh the like hood of being without it.

I understand completely but may I point out what soured you on detachable mags is an absolute piece of sh*t. Its like saying Pam Damoff soured you on women haha

Awesome! And probably considerably more than that given the 22" barrel.

The ELD-M and .506 BC is pretty wicked. Wouldn't have gone that way but after seeing so many pictures and video of what it can do...wow.

That’s what has been making its way down range here.. factory hornady black. I think the M stands for “might be the best hunting bullet I’ve used” with exception to Barnes LRX..

I went through many hours of reading/reviews and video logs of people using the bullet before trying it out for myself. It is not in the match category in any of those opinions, nor in mine.

Absolutely. Looks like pretty much just an SST without the cannelure, as far as construction goes? Holds together and does what the SST does anyway.

Would never guess the wounds people show me came from that round and those distances although it sure seems a bit much inside 150 meters or so.

Hah! 6.5 Grendel a bit much ;)

The first rule of road huntin is floorplates suck.

As a guy that has bagged a fair amount of game by cruise-ing the country side in comfort I've never found a clip to be an advantage. Even when I'm the driver I've been able to stuff 2 in magazine and shoot before any of my partners with clips. I've had several guns with clips and always found it more of a nuisance than anything. The only thing I have with a clip now is a toz17 RF.

You’re not wrong, but I just don’t buy axis anymore lol. I don’t own anything savage and I’d have to get one given to me I think lmao.

I have this argument with my brother in law all the time. He argues a loaded clip is better than a floor plate. I hunt off the road since I live in Alberta. Getting a round in the chamber hasn’t been the issue, ethical shots atre.

No disagreement here lol depends how offended they'd be if I flipped it.

Proper handling for road hunting is stuff for another thread....but.....
I like a drop mag for the ease of use when in and out of a p/u numerous times
proper road hunting needs to be able to single feed that first shot in fast, so I always have a second empty mag inserted when driving
way better than dropping a single into the void where the mag should be
and there is always time after the first shot for a mag switch or another single feed
win win

My daughter has a Savage 110 LW Storm in 6.5CM. Talley LW rings and VX2 2-7. Super light and accurate. There are better mag systems than the savage, but really how often are you pulling the mag in and out while hunting.

I just bought the same and I am waiting for it to arrive. Reviews all seem pretty typical - its a Savage so won't set your heart aflutter but they shoot very well for a sub-6lbs, sub-$1000 mountain gun.
