Gas System Question

Hello Seeking advice from a gun nut on this. Took my entire rifle apart today for cleaning and to see what's up. Pardon my lack of vocabulary on describing something I noticed.

It appeared that the gas 'piston' has some metal casing around it; two different pieces. Both have play, even the part at the end that holds itself around the barrel has a little bit of play.
I noticed this when putting my rifle away as when i tip the rifle down there was a sound of something moving and when i tip it back up another sound happened - this is not something i have noticed before.

After googling if a gas system should have some play, some posts had said yes, but this seemed like too much. I have attached some photos to try to explain it. I have not had any issues at all with this rifle or the gas system just noticed this now when doing cleaning/inspection.

Looks like an SRV2 Siberian to me. Yes, that is normal for this design. You'll notice that when the bolt is closed, it is much quieter/ the piston rod has much less play to move back and forth. Close the bolt, and pull the piston rod with your fingers in the direction of the stock. You'll see how the piston works to push the bolt back.

Ok cool thanks! and yessir its the SRV2.. im getting past 500 rd so keeping a close eye on issues that apparently start to show up. So far works amazing

No return spring on the Siberian. That's interesting.

were you cleaning it out as regular maintenance or something was up? how many rounds did you shoot until you did this? I"m curious because I just got the SRV2 and I'm reading up on maintenance requirements and how to prevent some of the issues identified (firing pin & gas system breakage)

im just nearing 1000 rds so i didnt need to clean, I was just tinkering with it. when doing this I did notice the gas block screw set had lost a screw. BCl sent a new gasblock screw and then i but blue locktight on them. It continues to work. I am waiting for BCL to open up their online store to sell parts. Would like to have spare parts on hand.
