My Yellowknife Walmart has gone full retard on ammo

I'm not sure how normal these prices are?

Oh God. Ok so the price tags are exactly the same at your store. I thought someone local just made wrong price labels. Putin will come over the top before I pay $150+ for a box of ANY standard hunting ammo. I payed $100-110 for 375 Ruger ammo with nickel brass and GMX bullets, and though $5 - $5.50 a shot was steep but due to the bore size and rarity, I didnt mind buying a few boxes to go with my reloaded ammo. Nosler must have gotten a fresh supply of Crack to want that much for 20 hunting bullets.

Its $99 for Nosler Trophy Grade in 308 at Cabelas (accubond, not partition, but close enough) and I typically find Cabelas prices to be too high to pay. lol

That said, the bullets alone in that box of ammo is worth like $40 these days with the current going prices for Nosler bullets!...

With prices like those , best make every shot count . The Wal-marts here quit selling ammo quite some time ago ; so maybe whole sale purchase costs and shipping exceeded what Wal-Mart could sell ammo for , so they quit selling it . Strange that some Wal-marts are still selling ammo in Canada , while others are not .

Seriously. I don't think you should say 'retarded'. Every time I say retarded I tell myself "don't say retarded". It is really hard with all the retarded drivers that can't turn left without taking two lanes but, yeah. Don't say retarded. It is disrespectful to people with the genetic disorder that makes them different even though they might be very cool and nice people.

It takes up shelf space. If you're not selling much ammo, you could be stocking a different product in that space. Around here it seems the farther away from Vancouver you get, the better the chances they sell ammo, which makes sense to me.

Walmart here stopped ammo and hunting then closed the tire shop also. But they got a new owner or something at Crappy Tire and they have stocked ammo again and few other things they never had before .

Those are standard Wally prices from what I've seen, although I rarely go in there and always regret it when I do.

Just browsed my walmart ammo locker. Am I just emerging from a cave? I guess its good I saw this ammo now, cause it'll be flying off the shelf at these prices....
1) Challenger 12ga 100ct target slug low recoil - $204.49
2) Nosler Trophy .308win 165gr AB $147.97
3) Nosler Trophy 6.5PRC 142gr ABLR $206.97
4) Nosler Varmageddon .223Rem 62gr FBHP $74.49
Question. Is my Walmart shelf stocker a retard, or are your prices similar at your local Walmart??

Boycott, let it collect dust.

Gotta keep watching it for when they decide to blow it out to use the shelf space for some Chinesium junk that'll move.

This, I missed it when my nearest discounted their ammo by 50%. I would’ve bought all the #7.5 target load I could, their Fed blue box 180gr .303 went down to $20-22 a box lol. I saw the empty shelves with the 50% off tags…

Never scored cheap ammo at Walmart but I check the fishing section almost every time I go. Gotten some real good deals over the years watching for clearance tags like $2 buzz bombs and $6 spools of flouro. Most recently got 3 arbogast top water lures (2 jitterbug and a hula popper), $10 for the pack and stren line for $1.50 a spool.

Wow, that is some insane pricing for 308, I bought my dad a 257 weatherby for christmas and was blown away that a box of 20 was around $170, mind really blown seeing 308 at that price point.

I see wolverine supply has 308 match for $67 but regular hunting bullets are in the $45-55 range

Even with cost of shipping you'd be saving a ton over that walmart pricepoint

What those prices might stand for is here it is like it or leave it . think about it . they don't care . and more than likely they won't clear it out cheap they will ship it back south where it will be sold cheaper . the prices at Canadian tire have gone nuts on ammo for sometime .

Yellowknife is a very expensive place to live in the first place…pricing will never be like southern cities. Whatever those price seem crazy.

But what will be the end price if the OP buy it on the net and get it shipped to Yellowknife ? That would be the reference point versus local.

That doesn't match what I have seen in similarly distant from Civilization places.

What I saw was that the prices of a newly opened WalMart in Cold Lake Alberta, were the same exact prices you could find in the city after you drove four hours to get there.

Some of the small businesses took a beating. But they were generally the businesses, that were screwing their customers over in the first place on price. They deserved to lose out!

I recall talking to the local bicycle shop owner, who was genuinely worried about WalMart and CTire coming there. In the end, it was nothingburger to him, as the chain stores did not service the market that he was interested in, with well built and repairable, but not inexpensive, bikes.

I recall seeing a item about the Northern Communities using Amazon Prime to buy groceries from down South, and that Canada Post was getting raped on the shipping costs. Dunno if they have made any changes on that front since...

We seem to be in an incredibly stupid time, as far as being able to reasonably and reliably source the ammo and components we need or want, seeing guys pimping primers for a buck each, and hundred bucks a pound for any kind of powder. It'll be kinda nice if there is still a industry left supplying this stuff, once all the effed up circumstances that are driving it stupid, finally settle out.

That's a reasonable explanation if Walmart in Abbotsford and Kamloops (or maybe Merritt?) didn't have the exact same price...

Newly opened Walmart isn't exactly a good measuring stick. They're known to sell stuff below cost to drive out competition in new markets, then raise prices later. I have no idea if they used that method in your example, but it's worth noting never the less.

Just my opinion but if your willing to pay $147.99 plus tax for a box of 308s, pretty sure your the stock boys father. Just sayin. I went online just before deer season and bought a case of 308 Federal premium 165gr Trophy Bonded for less than $500 to my door. I have a TC Icon that shoots them well under an inch at 100. Heard they werent loading them any more so I insured more than a lifetime supply for myself. End cost was $48 and change per box of twenty. Local Crappy Tire was $79 and tax for the same.

I recall reading an account of an American out of Philadelphia going on a hunting trip near Barkerville, he had some of his gear mailed to Barkerville for a dollar, said you can't buy anything in Barkerville for a dollar.
