Chronograph Recommendations for Air Rifles

It would depend on where you shoot, if you have good lighting a shooting chrony works well. Poor lighting the fx chrony works well enough. I have both but haven’t had time or an opportunity to test them in tandem.
 
If I were buying one today I'd save my pennies for the FX version as it just seems to run flawlessly, and it's not at all awkward in setting up or storage. But my old Shooting Chrony F1 still works just fine so I'll probably use that forever. My first year or so with the F1 was full of error messages. I used it strictly indoors, for testing various airgun tweaks, always seeking PCP efficiency and consistency. Getting it set up just right under lights was a pain. But once I discovered that multi-LED work lights provide 100% reliable lighting I stopped fussing with the white filters - they're still there, but act only as supports for the lights, using magnets. My light pucks have big magnets in them so I just stick a matching magnet on the other side of the plastic. Putting a pellet anywhere over the sensors works great.

Thx Jeff, to be honest I did see that when I ordered the rifle but I winced a bit at the price and wondered if it would work for my bow testing and large centerfires as well. I think the chrony professional is on sale for $149 now so big difference except the FX1 has the app software and is more convenient

nice set-up. Does it matter the brightness or intensity of the lights? brighter is better or worse?

See that a newer V2 is out and claims slightly higher velocity readings? Has anyone tested or compared capabilities of the two models?

My LED pucks have lots of lights in them, so fairly bright. When the batteries run a bit low they tend to flicker sometimes and the Chrony doesn't like that, throws up error messages. Swapping out a new set of batteries in each light makes it work well for another long while. Just did a few strings while tuning an Artemis PP750, then a week later my new (to me - barely used) Leshiy 2 in .25". Worked well as always.
 
FX radar works well, I have the gen 1 version 2. Still need some quick learning curve but ones you get it you will be "set for life"

They claim 1200fps, vs 1100 from the previous model. I assume to have better reading with SV, as most SV ammo shoot around 1080.

Though the garmin's might be the winner.
 
As to the Garmin Xero, love mine, but hang on to your Canadian Pesos for a few months. Caldwell has announced and actually shown a 'working' unit they call the 'Velociradar'. Suggested list is $US549. Does BC but looks like it only ranges out to 200 yards or so. Supposed to hit the street 'shortly', whatever that really means. You can look up the published details online. Have to wait till they actually get out for people to test and review.
