Barrel Swap on Rossi R92 Mares Leg

Hi guys,

I have a R92 Mares leg, and I want to put that short barrel on a stainless Rossi R92 as a backup for Bow Hunting. If I swap the 16 inch stainless barrel onto the blued receiver, would anyone still be interested in it? I would have no need for two lever actions.

You would be decreasing the value of each. Would still be resellable, but at a discount. Why not get a full stock for the mares leg?
 
Thats what I was thinking, but I really want the stainless, as I am afraid of rusting the blued mares leg if I get rained on. I will probably ceracoat the mare leg barrel if I go ahead with the swap. You reckon I could still get around $800 for the blued receiver with a SS barrel?
 
Prices have gone crazy on lever actions, so if you get them swapped properly and working accordingly, 800 is not unreasonable. I sold a full stainless Rossi for $800 ~3 years ago, thinking I got rich, but prices have changed drastically since then.
 
I used a full stocked blued 44 mares leg for years as a back to my longbow and as a hiking gun here in BC, it seen a lot of wet weather yet never a speck of rust if oiled and wax on the metal that’s under the wood. A lot of times I just gave it a quick wipe to dry and set it over the heat register for a bit. Not a whole lot to keep the rust at bay. Good quality blueing in my opinion on the Rossi’s.

Furniture wax works well, rub a thin layer on with a cloth and let dry. Then buff it and repeat, I use a minwax but any will do. I grease or wax my matte blued 870’s and they don’t rust, I let them dry by the wood stove fully or wipe with an oily rag before I put them away and they do fine. I take them out in the rain regularly.
 
And are all the internal parts in a stainless receiver also stainless? Best to maintain, dry, lube, etc as if it was regular steel.

What type of wax did you use for under the wood?
 
Why don’t you just rebarrel the stainless Rossi with a stainless blank however long you want it. Just maintain over 26” OAL
