.357 or .44 Mag Lever

Did you end up finding one yet. Have seen a few of the marlin 44 mags out there in my travels looking at things. Even a new 357 marlin lever. Lots of henry 45LC out there right now. I'm talking new at retails stores.

Still looking at different ones online . I do like the S&W that I posted in post #18 seems really interesting . I know I will probably get a mixed reply but who make the best lever action now , Marlin / Ruger or Henry ?

I think that will be more subjective now then it ever was before. Really depends on what you are looking for in style, finish in the end.

I agree the S&W looks nice, and the talk of the smooth action seems like a great bonus. In the Winchester models you can find it in a take down version in 16" barrels, the henry X with a 17" synthetic stock, or the standard 20" barrels with the other wood, stainless looks are great as well. Henry seems to be the leader in after market stocks, but I imagine the others will soon follow. Ruger is now making the 45-70 with the updated tactical style stock, but yet to offer in the 44, but I imagine will come eventually.

I'll be watching the S&W and the henry Supreme, as I have been wanting to add a 223 to the safe, and the supreme just seems to be a nice fit for that.

Soooo, really depends on what you want it to do in the end and overall look.

Thanks for that Wallz !

my local CT has a marlin in stock so I got to handle it. Seems like it is a smaller action than the X model I owned, slimmer. I didn't seem to like the straight grip design much.

Local shop has a used Winchester 94AE on the rack, and a few 45LC Henry big boy models in stock.

.44 magnum for personal woods defence against critters,357/38 for playing around at the range it's cheaper.my buddy hunts with his .357 for deer but only within his 40 yard little blind set up,nothing has taken a step after he dropped the hammer.

I keep a Stainless Rossi 1892 in 454 Casull with a 16" barrel on the quad when I work/goof around on my property. I've shot beavers and porcupines with it.

Hunt my place with Stainless Ruger Scout Rifle in .308. Also a Blued Sako 85 in 375 H&H.

Setting up for spring bear with .416 Ruger with a Stainless Ruger M77 Hawkeye.
