Gen 2 Cross Mag Problems

Hey guys, I’ve had this issue with my Gen 2 Cross mags for a while, and I thought I oughta see if the community shares my struggle:

On both my X95 and now my Siberian, there seems to be an issue in which the follower tilts as the round is picked up, driving the next round into the front of the mag body, either denting or even cracking the front of the mag body. I never really had this issue with metal mags, and I can’t really figure out what causes it in these mags.

I’ve heard that filing the front of the follower may help, but I’m leery of doing that until I’ve spoken to Cross industries about it.

Speaking of which, what’s their CS usually like? I’ve tried using their online form twice and their email once in the past 2-3 weeks, with no response to speak of. I’ll try calling them this week, but I’m kind of unimpressed so far.

Do you guys have any additional experiences with these mags, or any suggestions to prevent this/keep it from getting worse?

No first hand experience with cross mags, but I have heard they can be over-inserted when bolt is open causing malfunctions.

I've had mine out a few times and had no issues.

My first one didn't have this issue but the one I got a few months ago does. Gave it a tiny shot of balistol (probably any lube will do) and I've not had the problem since. Your mileage may vary.

Filing the front of the follower would just make the issue worse. From what I have seen this is the result of a twisted spring, which reduces the amount of force on the follower.

You can check this by removing the spring from the follower and spring plate and laying it on a flat surface. If the spring has any twist in it, try twisting the spring the opposite direction to make it lay flat on the surface. If you need more spring force you could also stretch it, but you really need to make sure it is not twisted first.

There is no STANAG for magazines. It would be nice if one existed as it would give manufacturers something to work from instead of creating their own standards.

I have yet to find an issue on these in my two 5.56 rifles, one canadian made and one German.

I had every kind of problem with mine and wouldn’t use again. Sent them back and lost the shipping cost both ways. I’d go LAR mags if they’re to be found.
