My Son dropped off his 30-30 last week as the action would only open half way. After getting it partway apart I could see that the left hand cartridge guide retaining screw had come loose and was hitting the bolt. Using a scriber from the bottom I managed to get the screw back in enough to remove the bolt. Half of the head of this slotted screw was broken off so it took a lot of fiddling to get the screw out. By my guess it is a #3-56 screw put there is only a few thou difference to a #4. The solution is to get the proper screw. Western Canada Gun Parts may have it but I haven't checked yet. It is not a straight shot through the loading port to put a new one in but snugging it and Loctite should do it. Perhaps a small offset screw driver might work if I can find one. I would try to secure the right hand one just in case it came loose by putting a jewelers screw driver through the hole for the left hand one but I would not get much torque and might wreck the head on that one.
I also need a Finger Lever Pin Stop Screw as the one in it appears to be homemade from a piece of 1\4" NF bolt with an off center hacksaw slot in it but I have yet to measure it.
If any one has an extra Cartridge Guide Retaining Screw that they can part with I can E-transfer you a few dollars.
Another option I am open to is if someone else needs a screw or two from WGP let me know and when and if I order from them it will make the minimum charge worthwhile.
I have PDF/JPG of the parts I need that I can send to any ones email if you PM me the address.
