I've recently aquired a very nice older Husqvarna 7x57 1600 and I wanted to put some nicer bases/rings. I picked up some Talley lightweight one piece base-rings and while they fit the hole pattern spacing the elevation is not correct. I've tried both mod 96 small ring, and mod 98 large ring with no luck. Has anyone had any luck finding a good scope mounting solution (other than Weaver) ???

I mounted a scope on a Husqvarna 4100 in 7x57, which I think is very similar to your receiver, if you have a 1600. It might be from the "old days" where it was not unexpected to have to put a shim under a scope base to make it correct height or tilt to match it's partner - was not always "drop in" and fit. The top surfaces of your bases should make a plane - front to back and side to side - something that is often not checked today. Can get even worse using a one piece base - can have the base "bend" to confirm to the receiver by tightening the mounting screws - many think it is straight, but do not measure it to know that. I am just guessing, but I suspect a shim (between receiver and lowest base) of correct thickness would allow you to use those Talley ring sets. If the rings are not pretty closely lined up and lapped, can expect the rings to mark the scope as the cap screws are tightened up. Some people did not care - they never removed a scope or re-used it on something else.

You got it, same rifle, the 4100 is the same as the 1600. I'm doing exactly what you suggest, only in reverse. I'm having the offending ring milled down a hair.

Don't know whether this helps. I have no experience with the Talley alloy one-piece mounts, but have used Talley all-steel bases and rings on Husqvarna 1900 rifles, which have the same hole-spacing/geometry as the 1600 series. I purchased the "small ring Mauser" bases (#252722) and have had no problems with them. I know that not everyone feels the same way that I do, but I find the steel Talley bases/rings much more pleasing aesthetically than alloy units.

Almost every one of my Husqvarna small ring rifles, and there's been a lot of them over the years, has worked perfectly with Weaver #55 and #46 bases. They are the correct height, and you can use whatever make rings fit on them. Many do, take your pick.

I always figured the old Weaver bases and rings were the original light weight, quick detachable, mounting system. :) Have demonstrated that to many unbelievers at the range by removing and reinstalling the scope between shots.

My 9.3 x 62 came with a QD side mount which also works perfectly. It is high enough that you can sight the irons underneth, but just a couple seconds and it's off or on and repeatable. I like it.

2nd this, most of the used ones I picked up have those Weaver # bases, few have had some lower profile Weaver on them...can't recall the numbers, but they were good to go. Too lazy right now to.go check lol.
Check the HVA sticky thread in the hunting section, it's long and it's probably in there.
