I saw in the WSS online catalogue that the 101 is back. I wonder where these are made and how good they are. Anyone have one of the new ones?
 
Have heard a little about them.They are not just a remake of the old 101 but an entirely different shotgun.They are being manufactured overseas to the best of my knowledge.

I think the original 101 was made by Nikko. I had heard something about the new one either being made by F/N or assembled by F/N by out sourced parts. The original one by Nikko was very nice gun.
 
It's the revival of the model # to help sales with nostalgia. Supposedly it has been styled to look similar to the Japanese(Olin Kondesha) produced 101's. This Shotgun is being manufactured in Belgium. As for how good they are, I have no idea.

The New Haven plant was abandonned by Winchester (Browning) and most of it is in very poor shape. It had over 20 years of piss-poor labour. The GIAT tried to modernise the facilities as in France and the way S&W did, with new CNC equipment. The union did not want to loose one member. So they kept all the old tooling. The GIAT bought FN with it Browning the sporting goods division. Browning was a money loer and so was Winchester Arms. They merged Winchester Arms under the Browning wing. As most of Winchester was redundant to Browning and Browning already has outsoureed production, it was a naturl to coase the money loosing and troublesome plant. The GIAT then sold Browning to the Belgiam region.

The local mayor (New Haven) is trying to revitalise the area with ome succes. It is very much a slum. Many of the Winchester buildings have been demolished.

My favorite is my Lefever with damascas barrels. The ingenious user-adjustable hinge is fiendishly clever and the whole gun is made to exacting standards. I'm also impressed by the Ansley H Fox grade B I bought last year.

My favourite American sxs is the Ansley Fox. The ones being produced by Galazan are very nice except in the higher grades they are too gaudy for my tastes. The CE grade with a wood upgrade would be my choice.

Some? I can only think of one American made O/U that might be thought of as very good?:rolleyes:
