X-ray before MRI

Cost if private clinic MRI where I went is based on how long your in the machine, id guess a small spot like Kidney area wouldn't take long and be much less than what I paid

Finally NS health scheduled me in for a MRI. Asked me if Tuesday was fine and said yes. People have no idea how stressful it is with that in your mind.

Go in feet first if you have any anxiety, wear earplugs, most importantly don't move

Yeah, being loaded up on caffeine, is like to be a bad idea too. Don't avoid the stuff if you usually drink a morning coffee, just pay attention that you don't load up. Hit the bathroom before you go in.

The outfit I saw (six or seven sessions all told, longest was a bit over two hours, IIRC) had a pretty good set of headphones and would tune in to whatever Radio Station you wished to listen to, which is pretty handy, as it gives you something to think about, besides concentrating on not moving.

It's a good place to practice some of the calming or relaxation exercises you may have had any exposure to! Get yer Zen on, and done before ya know it, eh!

I'm not allowed any coffee. So morning should be interesting. I'll toss some ear plugs in my pocket when I leave in the am. As long as there is some light, I should be fine in it. If I can sit still for 6 hours getting tattooed being stuck in a tube should be fine.

They never asked me if I hunted. Only if I welded or did any grinding to get metal in my eye.

I did find out that some underwear has metal and can cause burns. Was a sign when I was changing into scrubs.

Take it you never had one as they don't even put stitches in for one. They were worried about my eyes for my MRI .

Same. They asked if I ever had metal get in my eyes from grinding or cutting metal.
And ya, vasectomy was in and out, no stitches no nuthin'.
Way back it was more intrusive.

I have stainless steel sutures in my sternum. Set off an airport wand if it is set fine enough. Must be non-magnetic, not a problem for the MRI.

I have four screws, two rods (assuming some form of stainless steel), and a Tantalum Cage in my lower back, never have been picked up by airport security, and had several sessions in the MRI machine after those were installed circa 2008. Was told that the metal in there makes it unlikely they will ever get a decent clear image of that particular area, but otherwise wasn't gonna be an issue.

Was scheduled for an MRI today (getting old sucks) so when I booked the appointment I mentioned I'm a big hunter and use a shotgun for much of my game. Fortunately, they scheduled me for X-rays of my digestive system before the MRI.

Well, I'm glad they did because there is one piece of shot somewhere in my digestive tract. They didn't know if it was lead or steel, but suffice to say no MRI for me today. I assume they'll either wait for it to "flush out" or my doctor will recommend some other way to get it out (the MRI tech mentioned that if it was stuck in my appendix I may never get an MRI.)

Thought I'd share to potentially save someone the joys of having a steel BB ripped out from the inside.

YMMV

The docs at home practicing right now I’m sure

Seeing how our "free" health care sucks so bad, I inquired 'bout a full MRI for my wife. She'd surely die of old age before getting one in northern Ontario.

$1200 U.S. in Buffalo. When I talked to her/my doctor when I was in for my drivers physical, he got the procedure bumped up by a couple of months.

Oh yeah, that 10 min. physical costs 150 bucks now. Up from 80, not so long age.

This happened to me as well.
On the same note I had a small fragment of steel under the skin in my belly that I had forgot about. A couple days after an MRI the spot started to bleed and the chunk finally came out.
I expected to be bleeding from my hands when I came out. I usually had tons of little metal splinters in my fingers back then. But nothing happened I was aware of.

Better than NS. Now I must do a MRI every 6 months now.

Don't you mean this practice game ?
A friend has been going through some difficult time atm.
She has had three mri's and scheduled for another one.
You can hear the fear in her voice when she mentions the word "tube" ..
The loud hum of the machinery and the enclosed space for required for the imaging ...
Claustrophobia is a biotch...

Not all doctors are Surgeons

Years back they took an xray of my eyes before my MRI. In case I had metal fragments from welding/grinding. I am a retired mechanic.

I was a Millwright for 35 years at one point while pounding a bearing race of a shaft I had a piece come off and hit me it the stomach, never thought anything about it. About 5 years later I had an infection on my stomach while having a shower I noticed a dark spot there and I squeezed it like a pimple and out came a piece of bearing. I’m sure I still have a bit of metal in me from grinding

Family took a trip to Cape Cod back in the summer of 1967. The following spring, my dad was getting up one morning when he felt something scrape on the bedsheet and when he checked saw a little glint of mother of pearl and pulled a one inch sliver of seashell out of the sole of his foot.
