7.62 Tokarev non steel core

Well, the marstar 7.62x25 and 9mm parts kits are sold out. Been eyeballing the 9mm parts kit for a while because I wanted the plastic grips but just wasn't willing to pay the almost 500 for it. Guess I could have parted out some of the other bits like the barrel and slide easily enough.

Form the brass from FREE range pickup .223 brass. It'll run just fine in a Tok.

While it is nice that when you do this, even after firing the brass is so undersized that you don’t need to lube it for the sizing die, it is a ridiculous amount of work. Cutting the case in half, sizing, trimming, reaming, chamfering/deburring, annealing, not to mention dealing with the crimped primer pockets on most .223 brass.

Like the title says, is there any ammunition for the Tokarev currently available that isn’t steel core?

Bought about 300 rounds on a lark but no good at my indoor range. Would love to run the thing some.

S&B and PPU but get your wallet out . you might want to source come brass and bullets and dies and reload your own . you'll need jacketed bullets or lead with gas checks on them . it's a hot load if I'm not mistaken . 88 grain bullet at what ? 1600fps ? can't remember not enough coffee in the computer yet this morning .

85gr at ~1500-1600 fps. But you don’t have to load them quite that hot. Also if you reload, you should slug your bore. I have on all mine and I was using Norinco new production ammo that was .306” or .307”, down bores that were .3105” at the low end (NP762) to .3145” at the high end (Chinese Type 54). So it might be worth it to use .32 calibre bullets depending, ie Campro makes an 85gr in .312 for .32 H&R Magnum.

I reload my own with 93 gr lead plain base bullets with 4.3 grs of reddot. Not a max load but still gives decent snap. Most of my cases are made out of 223 which I found Winchester was the easiest. Cut the case ,size and trim to length. Other cases needed cases mouths thinned and some needed crimps removed.

Is the Norinco /red box ammo steel core?

According to the printed description which always comes with the Norinco red box ammo: "4.4 The cartridge is composed of copper-coated steel rimless bottle neck case, steel core, lead sheath and copper-coated steel jacketed bullet, Berdan primer and 2/1 camphor propellant".

I just checked a box of Sellier & Bellot, Tokarev FMJ 85grs . No steel. magnet will not stick. The .30 Cal surplus form China is steel case and steel core.
