Another help pick a rifle for my kid thread

I have a savage 110 Strom left hand in 30-06, s/s, it length of pull spacers and cheek riser which was thrown out by accident. I may be selling this soon

The BLR has crossed my mind a few times. Light, relatively compact and a bit better range than the 30-30.

Is a lever not a harder gun for a beginner to master than a bolt gun ?
Specifically follow up shots on game.

Remington Model 7 in 308 or a Ruger M77 MKII compact also in 308.

Short, lightweight, easy to resell if you don't like them, both run around a $1000 for stainless, laminate versions.

Your location is listed as brant County is that not still a shotgun only zone ?

I hunted off #6 concession near old 97 rd years ago for turkey./rabbit/deer.. could hear the lions and elephants from the safari...

He is actually more familiar with lever guns as I prefer them therfore have more of them, shoots a lever pretty comfortably. He actually has less time behind the trigger of a bolt than a lever.

The Ruger 77 is definitely on my top 5 list for him, finding a left in the right caliber and configuration is the trick.

I do live in a controlled deer hunt zone but also have a camp in eastern Ontario where we hunt bear moose and deer.

Teach him to pull the hammer back on the lever before working it.
Eases the throw weight of the lever and, well, it's just way easier.

Model 7 in 308win will be on my table in April iff'in you manage to head to Loopyland and attend
this great show.

I don't think the model 7 exists in a lefty, and if lefty compact ruger 77s exist they must be pretty rare as I've never seen one.

I was going to say there are a bunch of single shots out in those calibers. Great for lefty and right handed shooters, so both can use them, so you don't have to be specific for shooting styles.

CVA is putting out a few singles in the 6.5 CM caliber range, Henry and then the TC encore, as well as the Ruger no1's. There are also some around in the uberti line up. The TC encore would give you the advantage of caliber change ups as well.
