Rifle Suggestion for a Young Shooter

Yes 9.3's are not gentle. My 9.3x57 M96 is 6.25lbs with a peep sight. 286grs at 2200 fps is a solid push.

One reason I would go with a .270 is it allows you to step up to 150gr pills if you find yourself on a moose hunt. I have used a .243 on mule deer but definitely notice a difference on the impact reaction compared to a 140gr .270. Never had a bang/flop with the .243, they work fine just not as dramatic.

6.5 x 55 allows you to step up to 160 gr; very high ballistic ecoefficiency and super high sectional density. I read a couple of papers that show the little 6.5 x 55 having more terminal energy past 250-300 yards than the .308 and .306 due to the high BC and sectional density. Not just on paper, but historically, killing more moose than about any other cartridge.

I have a compact savage axis 243win. It’s just under 7lbs scoped.
Good budget friendly gun.

I think a compact Ruger M77 with a 16.5” barrel would be sweet. It would be just over 6 lbs with a scope.
I want one and put a full-size stock on it.

Yes indeed, very versatile cartridge. My 6.5 Swede shoots most bullet weights quite well from 120 to 160 grain. I have been using the 143 gr ELDX for deer but also loaded up some Hornady 160 grn and was impressed with the accuracy, less than 1 moa.

Just be aware that hunting big game in BC with 22 caliber is illegal. Which means 243/6mm is the minimum legal caliber for hunting big game is BC. (Unless the regulations have changed since I last looked at them).

.223 and other .22 centerfires are legal and have been as long as I can recall, which is about 40 years.

BC has plenty of arbitrary regulations but banning 22 Centerfires has never been one of them. 22 Rimfires were banned as a roadblock to poor people, but 25 and 32, and 44 Rimfires were legal until the regulation morphed into the current "rimfire" from the former "22 rimfire".

I would search the used market for one of these. Buy a spare 10-round mag and a new EGW pic rail, top it with your choice of a 3-9x40 and you have one hell of a nice 243 scout rifle. Do-it-all.

That would be a good option. I'd go with medium warne QD rings though as the rail won't allow you to see the iron sights if you remove the scope, though that might not matter. The rail on the CZ557 range was different than any other cz rail I've seen.

Four easy to access torx screws and it's off in a minute or two. I prefer iron sights in a Scout rifle anyway. I also have an NECG dovetail mounted peep site. Lots of options there. My other CZ 557 Lux in 8x57 has been sitting in a nice OEM synthetic stock lately and for that one I have Warnes high QD rings with a 3-9x50 Elite 3500--quick and handy access to its sights too.

A little off-topic here, but, getting back to the earlier posts flagging a Sako Browning on auction, I might mention that the same KOS auction has a very nice Brno 21 in what looks like very good condition with 2 days to go. I'm not interested personally, but I'm guessing that there are a fair number of Brno fans who would be interested.

Something fishie about the double set trigger screw adjusment.
Not factory that's furr shure.
What's fishy about it? The adjustment screw is backed out somewhat, but that doesn't signify anything fishy. Why do you think that it's not factory? Here's another one with exactly the same trigger assembly:

Truly, a thing of beauty!!

I agree. In my opinion, the M21/22s were the nicest Brno centerfires ever made. With the small-ring Mauser action, they're light and lively, and exhibit consummate good taste. If I didn't already have too many rifles, I think I'd bid on it.
