Funny how some folks put down RAR's without really getting out and workin' with 'em. I have 3 at present & have no real gripes with the buggers.

agreed but 1:9 will handle weights suitable for normal deer hunting imo plus target to 5or600
but he also poo-poo'ed Savage so its a non-starter
 
Tikka, cut to 18.5”, fit irons or a skinner rail (damn ugly though).

The new Ranahan Ranch model looks sweet, basically Battue in .223. Not stainless, but you could coat it.

Have you seen a Haida gwaii button buck? Not much bigger than most of the coyotes you shoot and you can usually get within a few dozen yards
 
My thoughts. If the op is wanting 1:7 twist in 223, I'm assuming high bc large bullets. What's the difference between a 80gr 6mm bullet and a 80gr .223 bullet? I live in the land of lilliputian deer, a 22 centerfire would be fine here except for one issue: what bullet?


I've asked that before in these threads. Seems 60 partition and Barnes. Neither needs 1:7 twist. Most every bullet in 223 seems to be designed for varmit/predators. There's just more bullets in 6mm designed for medium game, you still would struggle finding a medium game bullet less than 70gr.

So here's an idea. Not a 223, instead how about.

Rem model 7, does it come in 243?
Ruger m77 ultralight 243
Forbes 24/nula 243.

No warningshot, a 6mm arc would be cool. But you can't buy buckets of 6mm arc ammo to burn at the range or pick up 100s of 1f brass and campro bullets and reload for a few cents ( to be fair you probably can't do this anymore)

The US army uses 1:7 twist for 62 grainers, maybe they're onto something. Honestly I'd like to try the 77 grain TMK and see what all the hype is for.

Agreed, seems very cool. Something a bit "off" about the 223 in the tikka action length and magwell though

correct....why take a knife to a gun fight...223 is a wimpy cal for anything over a coyote and there is better cals for that ... those who think 223 has it for deer truly know that almost any larger cal is just better ....few can truly shoot well enough to handicap them selves to this level...but again they know better...feel your head....don

TMK...not a real big fan of SMK or the other BTHPs.

I *think* the military went to 1 in 7" because of M856 tracer, not the 62gr FMJ...not sure.

Shoot a few deer with 77gr TMK, 80 or 88gr ELD-M.

Almost any larger cal is absolutely not better, depending on how its loaded.

If you know better, how do you know this isn't true?
