I've just bought myself a nice Mosin rife only to discover that 7.62x54r ammo seems to be impossible to find. Everywhere I look is sold out and has no idea when they'll be getting another shipment. So now I've got a nice rifle and nothing to feed it.

Does anyone know a good place to buy some milsurp 7.62x54r ammo that ships Canada wide? One that currently or will soon have some in stock? Thanks for your help.

It is VERY difficult to find right now. All of the dealers are restricted from selling any Milsurp 7.62x54r they might have right now, thanks to NRCan. I was lucky enough to find 8 boxes of new S&B ammo at my GunRange shop. Most stores do not carry it. When you find it, buy all that you can.

Yeah, In the next 2-8 months is supposedly the revealing of Canadaammo's (canam) next shipment. Hopefully it's included or I've been telling a lot of people to wait for nothing!

I have about 400 rounds of ball czech milsurp I might be interested in letting go but only if I don't have to personally pay for dangerous goods and handling shipping charges. It would have to go out by courier.

pm me if interested.

Check Milarm (Edmonton) they had 2 different types last week, both milsurp, 20 round green box's and 15 round wrapped brown paper. I don't know the manufacturer or bullet weight.

last i checked sir mailorder still had milsurp 7.62x54r listed on their website. it wasnt the czech stuff. also, al simmons in hamilton usually has some on hand. either s&b, or prvi partizan.

yup: 174 gr. FMJ Hungary Manufacture. Brass case. Berdan primed
7.62 X 54R FMJ Ammunition: 100 rounds $ 31.99
7.62 X 54R FMJ Ammunition: 20 rounds $ 6.99
7.62 X 54R FMJ Ammunition: 440 rounds $ 124.99
check SIR

also, i just started reloading for the first time ever, and i started with this caliber. i love it. reloading is definitely the way to go.

I have 600 rounds I got in Buffalo at the Buffalo Gun Center, great surplus ammo for cheap. You gotta grab it when you see it. I have not been their since the new year so don't know what they have left. when I was there they had four metal cans of the stuff and I bought two. It was a metal case, the kind you have to peel open, containing 300rds for $45US. Just have to clean your guns after.

on website...doesn't mean in stock

They have NONE...with no estimated date for a new shipment

And you got an export permit for that? From what I have read, bringing ammo over the border without one is VERY dangerous.

yup exporting ammo without a permit is a VERY good way to lose your car got to jail (its a felony) be fined huge and be banned from the us

night just lose the ammo but they can do all of the above

its NOT canadian customs but us ATF and customs

You know what really grinds my gears? Its not the fact that there is no surplus ammo, its that there is no ammo at all. No igman(not that great but better than nothing), no privi(good stuff), no sellier&bellot(also pretty good), no remington(sellier reboxed), no wolf(NA in Canada), no brown bear(NA in Canada), no olympic(NA in Canada), no norinco(not anymore), only norma(3 boxes cost more than the rifle & have the wrong diameter bullet to boot) & maybe some lapua for the truly rich(last box I saw was $60). The supply of brass is spotty at best unless you want norma or lapua at $70 or $80 per 100. Just the thought of passing a lapua case through a svt gives me the shivers. Even the bullets at $40 per 100(SMK) fly off the shelves as the enfield, jap 7.7, 7.63 mauser & 7.62x54r shooters scrap it out over the last box. Meanwhile, the store clerk sits on an unopened case of .308 bullets which are everywhere. The only .310 bullets everybody has in stock are the 123grn sks version that nobody bothers to use in their sks cause it ejects brass(that nobody stocks) into low orbit or round nose bullets that won't feed from anything but a long lee. What the hell is a mosin guy like me supposed to do, fix bayonet & charge the target? Casting is great fun but how much time does it take to cast, lube & gascheck 1000 bullets? Never mind the extra step of flaring the case to get the bullet to seat, sorting out the bad ones, causing a noxious cloud of smoke while melting every wheel weight in a 20km radius to get some decently hard & cheap lead. Its enough to piss off the good humour man I tell yah.

I don't know about anyone else but I use Bell/Igman brass (crappy brass at that) and reload. Seems like any .310/.311 bullet will do and I've tried 125, 150, and 174 grn bullets with pretty good success. The Mosin doesn't seem picky, a la Lee Enfield, about soft point bullets.

Given the increasing number of milsurp owners who have Nosins and SVTs, has any Canadian manufacturer though about this? BDX? Anyone?
