Whats your thoughts on 1/2" at 200 yards with Vangaurds

I hear a lot of "tack driver" stories but never see many "tack driver" groups! Seems like some shooters believe that their rifle is capable of extreme accuracy because they got a few good groups one day.... There's a big difference between an occassional decent group and repeat shot accuracy over time. I haven't had one centerfire in the past five years that hasn't given me several sub 0.25" groups @ 100M ...but none of these rifles (nor me) could get that accuracy every day.
The 1/2" groups at 200yds definitely belong in a BENCHREST FORUM because we don't see many groups like that from "sporter" rifles.

It's possible, I suppose. I'm rather skeptical, though I wouldn't be completely floored if this gun has produced such a miracle group (3-shot, of course).

Every gun out there will produce a miracle group if you use it enough. A million monkeys on a million keyboards and all that. I once shot a 1" 3-shot group at 600 yards with my 243, but it certainly wasn't anything other than a complete fluke. And many, many of my guns will shoot <1" at 200 yards if you only count the best 3 out of 5 shots in the group - it's a very rare rifle that can do that consistently in one sitting, let alone on every sitting.

I agree. A friend of mine used to talk about his groups fired from military rifles. They sounded good. Then I went to the range with him an discovered his secret. If he shot 10 shots and 2/3 of them were a pretty fair group but the other third opened the group to 3", he simply discarded the bad shots as "fliers". so his group magically went from 3" to 1.5".

My practice is that the "group" included every shot, even if I know I jerked the trigger a bit.

I sighted in 3 Vanguards last year and the best I could get was .75 at 100m with no mods of any sort, from the store scope already on, dial it in and go. I thought they were great but thats a wee bit of a stretch.

I believe in the post, the guy refers to his Mark V rifles and not Vanguards.

Read the post, here is the quote from the guy who claims to shoot the groupings.

"I have a 243 ULW, a 7mm-08 SPM, and 338-06 SBGM All of them are pretty much the same thing."

NONE OF THESE ARE VANGUARDS, they are Mark V's........

The guy is still full of #### anyways....

When you go to the post, it goes to page 5, click back to page one or two and thats where this knob talks about his awesome rifles....
