Looking for some direction or ideas on what I could rebarrel a old Sako 7x33 to, I just bought this and did not realize it was .5 inch shorter than a L461, I did some research and I think the early L46's were shorter than the later ones chambered in 222(maybe), I was also told not to waist my time going 218 Bee or 25-20 because of feeding issues, the plan was to build a 222 till I realized they will not fit in the mag as they are way to long, I do have an Idea but would like to see what comes from here first...... 357 Mag using 223 cases

I'd go with a rebarrel in 300 BLK meself on an L46. Case length and rim diameters are close enough to function well but you would likely find the magazine length a tad short for bullets heavier than the 110 gr round nose jobs intended for the M1 Carbine. No worries though with single loading the heavy bullets the 300 BLK is designed for.

Why not keep it in 7x33 - there was a group of guys on the sako forum making brass from 350legend brass. From the sounds of it, all they did was trim the brass to 35mm and run it through the sizer. Apparently the rim is about 0.015” smaller, but from all accounts it didn’t seem to matter and worked perfectly.

So build it's little cousin - the .221 Fireball. An excellent little cartridge and cheap to shoot.
