Garmin Chronograph, First world problem

First, I must confess I have a Labradar chrono. I have had no problems with it and actually like it.I use it to assist my reloading efforts and to to help with ballistic calculations for distance shooting.

Second, I am an old guy. When I went back to school after a few year's break to work I had the scary experience of looking around the room in my first Physics exam and discovering I was the only person using a slide rule! A couple of people asked me after class what was that thing I was using?! I aced the course using my bamboo computer

So a little birdie just told me I am getting a Garmin chrono for my birthday. They praised it's coolfeatures like pairing to my phone.I have never been moved to need to pair my chrono with my phone. I like using my note book to write down my readings. One benefit of using old tech paper/pen is that it gives time for barrel cooling.

Damn, now what do I do? Guess sell my old chrono after my birthday this summer. The way things are going I might end up getting paid with a couple of sleeves of primers.

I'm young and I'm still using my Labradar, it was the best thing ever for working on load, I still remember the time when I have to close the shooting lane to set up my funky chronograph right in front of shooting bench, Lol.

Best solution is to sell the one you don't need or keep as backup.

You don't need to pair it to your phone. Maybe just for updates. I still use the old paper and pencil and record each shot.

I still run my slide rules and Powley computer to impress the young folks, but the new technology is easier to learn and use.
My Oehler 33 still works like a charm but has taken a backseat to the convenience of my Labradar and is now only used for 3900 fps and above.
The Garmin has all the features of the LR and velocities up to 5000 . It is a definite game changer. You will not be disappointed…. and there’s nothing in the Garmin instructions that says you cannot record each shot with a pencil and paper….

I do not connect my Garmin to my phone. It works great. I do not like new electronics generally. The Garmin is easy to use. I didn’t read the directions, just turned it on and went from there. It kicks ass.

Haven't seen one in eons. I had one of those plus a few more of the old "cardboard computers" that came with my ICS Gunsmithing Correspondence Course wayyyyyyy back in the day !! Lost a bunch of that kind of stuff in a basement flood a long time ago.

Best thing to do, if you consider yourself an "old guy", is to pretend you are still young and get at 'er. I am 76, which puts me in the "old guy" class. I have three computers on my desk in my reloading/office/BS parlour. I have a foot in each world now. I still run a nice big CLAAS Xerion 5000 every Spring and a nice new CLAAS 8000 series combine every Fall, and love big old first and second generation EMD locomotives. I spend the winters playing with guns, reloading, shooting, telling absolutely true stories.

I just bought a Garmin chrono, but haven't used it yet. I have a Caldwell that i used a few times, but the new one looks like the one to use now.

I'll keep my Labradar, they're not worth much these days. I'd suggest getting the Garmin ShotView app, if for no other reason than to keep the Xero's firmware up to date

Software updates can also be done through Garmin Express on your PC

Got to try out my Zero today for the first time ! Worked Excellent ! Easy to use ! Great for an Old Fudd like me BUT I’m still keeping my Lab Radar for now . Maybe the used price will go back up after 20-30 years RJ

That's about where I'm at. I have one listed still but for all anyone seems willing to pay for them I'll just keep as a backup. They work fine, just not as easy and small as the Garmin

Thanks guys for your input. I had no intention to buy the new Garmin, but I have learned not to look a gift horse in the mouth, The Labradar will end up taking space next to my old screen style chrono (you know the one, the one with the bullet hole in it , it still works even with the hole by the way.

I'm an old guy as well, still using my Chrony Alpha however, it still works GREAT!!!
