I bought a used Mossberg 5500. I paid peanuts for it, the safety mechanism on top was removed when I got it & the slide bolt assembly with a semi hard rack jams towards the back of the frame! The hole on top allows me to tap it all back into closed position, no doubt why it was removed initially! I have did as much research online & learnt nearly nothing. I disassembled it & the buffer block doesn't appear to be damaged in any way. Does anybody have a solution they can share as I am not familiar at all with Mossberg firearms, but I like this as a beater & a challenge!

The hole on top allows me to tap it all back into closed position...

No, don't do that.

You disassembled once, do it again and try to determine where the binding is occurring. forward at the gas system, rearward at the bolt assembly etc etc.

Damaged Bolt Lock or Bolt Lock Pin, Safety Lock or other safety parts floating around the action, hammer binding or loose shot in the works are all things I'd check. The usual clean and lube.

I have it disassembled now, I have a Numrich schematic I study & I turn the receiver housing upside down in my hand & slowly run assembly back & forth simulating proper function, it seems to be running back on the rails to far & the flat bar on the back of the carrier jams into the recess in the buffer block!
