Auto Ordnance M1 Carbines

Hello all,

Anyone have a new modern manufactured Auto Ordnance M1 Carbines with the 18.5 inch barrels? How do they compare to the surplus ones? I've heard rumors that the new ones are prone to jamming, but I was wondering if anyone can confirm.

Also, I haven't seen any Canadian stores carrying them in stock for the past couple years. Anyone got a line on if more are going to be brought into Canada?
 
I don't think there's been 'New' Import in a while...likely never will be at this point. Very nice, light rifle. Great round. I bought one NR, Brand New, years ago. When I had it, I never shot it much, but the issue is (usually) with the Mags, not the rifle. I managed to find some decent 5/15's that ran well. & even some 5/30's..but never used them or it much. 50 rnds, no issues that I remember. Supposed to be made as the originals.
 
Some of the early ones were slightly out of spec--replacing the trigger housing with GI often solved the issue. As previously stated, good mags make the difference also.

Thanks for the help! I'm a big WW2 gun lover, so I'd like to eventually track a non-restricted one down before any bans come for them. I'd like to at least have one in my collection and be able to take it out onto crown land with the non-restricted barrel length. I've fired a buddy's M1 Carbine and it was a dream to shoot, and I've been hooked ever since.

Sounds like mags are the real issue, rather than the rifle itself then?
 
I bought one many moons ago. Love it. It's a great little rifle, I carry it alot in the summer time blasting gophers. I bought 4 extra 5/30 magazine's for it. 1 out of the 4 causes issues.
 
Restricted/Non restricted, no difference if the Liberals try to ban them in the future by name or "variant". I bought a 1945 Inland to shoot in 3 gun matches because of the OIC and it is a hoot. I purchased brand new steel 5/30 mags manufactured in Korea and they work flawlessly.


 
I haven't shot mine that much but I have experienced jams with mine as well. I was told that these guns were not designed to be oiled but rather that they should be greased. Can anyone validate this comment?. I'm using the 5 round magazine that it come with. Can antone suggest a mag that they use that works well.

I know the M1 Garand is supposed to be lubricated with grease , not oil
 
These were like a thing … they showed up for $800, then they were $1,000 and then I’ve never seen one for sale again except at an auction and it went for much more than that.

With regards to Garands or Carbines, Generally speaking, if it slides grease it, if it rotates on a pin or shaft, oil it.

It was North Sylva, but when I sent them an email asking when they were getting some more of the M1A1 Carbine version, they sent me back a clip from the FA saying that the Auto Ordnance M1A1 was prohibited - referring of course to the Thompson M1A1. At that point I gave up.

Yes lithium soap based grease works, thought there are better grease choices (complex lithium or other synthetics). Buy a tube of synthetic and it’ll last decades. I’d get a kick of the guys/retailers reselling(scamming) tiny containers of SHELL aeroshell 33 for ar builds, like it’s special or needed.

Don’t overthink it
 
I bought one new about 8 years ago from a sponsor on here. Rifle has worked perfectly, the only change I made was to replace the rear site to the Kensight that is adjustable, also changed the barrel band to the original M1 with bayonet holder and of course the m1 rifle sling with oiler. The only draw back that I heard of was it does not work well with older M1 mags, seems it likes the new Auto Ordnance mags

Very good question. They did use the little grease pots like those supplied with the M1 Garand cleaning kit, just don't know where they stored them. Possibly in the M1 Carbine cleaning kit.
