Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I have one of the old TI proprietary Heron Arms mounts for the pic rail adapter, and it's canted rather far to the left. I haven't had an optic to put on it for a while, so I haven't cared much, but I am kind of concerned about putting anything with magnification on it. Is there any way to correct the cant, or should I just order one of the Master Mount setups, especially since that side rail is properly AK compatible?

Can you post a picture? Download to imgur and copy it here with the BB code, chose size extra large.

That's probably the best I can get of it. It's a bit hard to tell, but the rail isn't level, it's canted left and a bit up.

Is the Herron Arms side rail square to the receiver ? could be due to a number of things: One the cheap Allibaba grade 1913 side mount wasnt machined true. Two the Herron Arms Side Rail wasnt machined true. Three the bottom step of your Type 81s receiver isnt very square.

Additionally in the states the Company Echo 93 used to make this clip in cheek rest for underfolders. sadly theyre not making them anymore. but im sure someone could make one up easily via 3d printing:

video showing it in action :

Heres another video showing the piece detached from the gun:

"The UFCR is simple and I mean that as a compliment. It is a molded, .08″ thick Kydex piece that snaps into place between the two bars of the under folding stock. It provides a more repeatable and comfortable cheek weld for stamped/AKM under folders including the Yugo M70. It must be removed if you fold the stock but installing/removing it is easy."

Wouldnt be too hard for someone to make this, they used to retail for $35 usd

Mines back together with the revamped furniture. I like it a lot better than the yellow/orange

Thanks for the info HuskyDude

This is a very good job considering the type and grade of wood (Beech) which doesn't take stain well. Norinco didn't give us Grade A Walnut, that's for sure... Even the Chinese Catalpa wood like on their SKS rifles would have been much better.

Everything's square onto the receiver, nothing's protruding or loose as far as I can tell.

I can fire those up... would feel bad selling because someone else design but... what would you pay for it? Add 18 dollar shipping.

The maker clearly wants his work reproduced, or he wouldn't have put it in a place could make and profit from it. Throw a designed by MakerName, made by you sticker on it, cover your time, materials, and shipping cost plus a reasonable, non-gouging profit, and set a corresponding price.

See if someone can come up with a non-electrical tape means of attaching the cleaning kit to the wire stock and using that as a cheek rest.

First, my appologies if this was already discussed somewhere in this 200+ page thread, but I just don't have the time to go through it.

Quick question:
Would anyone here be in the know on where one could get their hands on that 3D printed part, which fills the ugly gap between the trigger guard and the magazine on the T81?

I remember there was a gentelman on GP selling these a while ago, but can't find the add anymore.
