Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

These are also available if your just want to mount a red dot. Very sleek and light. Has rmr, holosun, dpp, and doctor footprints aswell as milk slot to fit a 3 slot mlok/pic rail. Those mounts and screws listed above are overpriced and over kill for a red dot. TI wants 19.99 for the screws, the others seem to never have stock and they want 60-120 for two screws.

For just a dot these are really nice, $90 for the mount, screws from TI are 39.99 to your door. Can easily field strip without removing mount. Sits low and tight to the receiver, don’t even notice it really. Not like the other warts. Lol at the mcwhistle mount, #### that mounts set up for those Burmese neck stretching women

Do you have link or actual listing name for that mount? I can't seem to find it. Thanks.

On a side note, as a Cambodian. We don't have neck stretching women. Last time I was there, I was still using a beat up Russian AK47, Lol

Oh haha yea I was thinking Myanmar, my bad! The eBay seller is “ xfiretactical” but he seems to be out of stock. I’d suggest contacting the seller for an eta on being restocked as they seem to sell out fast any time they pop up

Has anyone put a sigmaco quad rail on an Lmg yet? If so what was the result? Way to heavy or good weight distribution? Maybe not though if you change the club foot?

Also with said quad rail has anyone run an EoTech exps on the quad rail (or regular type 81) and if so how was the eye relief. Can you still get good sight picture with the optic that far forward ? Thanks

Had to buy one to check it out. I recall the AK underfolders back in the day a bit more positively than others on here seem to - I remember them shouldering quite comfortably (which this one does as well), but the cheekweld with this is nonexistant, much like it was on AK underfolders. This one doesn't feel at all muzzle-heavy, which was a pleasant surprise.

Still, I like this one. Ergonomics-wise the T81 side-folder's a lot more practical, which isn't at all a surprise. Not sure whether or not I'll keep it long-term, but it sure does look cool! lol

Stock locks open very solidly, but the sling point rubs against the base of my thumb. When folded, the stock is wobbly, and completely blocks the safety.

Based on HuskyDude's post here I decided I really liked what he had done regarding the colour of the furniture on his rifles.

After PM'ing him for more info I started to strip and stain the wood on my second import regular Type 81

At the moment it is stained and I'm waiting for it to dry so I can start applying the coats of antique oil to finish.

Probably do the same to the under folder I have on the way. Really don't like that baby sh^t yellow/orange of the OEM finish.

Will post up here once the wood is finished and the rifle is back together.

Not sure if this will yanked, as he is not a forum vendor, but this is cool to see how a Type 81 looks with a dong-style for grip and lightened wooden stock:

Just saw that video today (and account) today. One of the only youtubers I actually enjoyed watching. He did a good job on his type 81

I have one coming. I am very proficient with irons and have some hornady black to test. I had two sr I found the accuracy disappointing

Yeah. The longer barrel did not help much. Some how my best result came out with WR762 when those were active, not by Cz 527, vz58, type 81s using Barnaul.

Same, and I have an SA to compare as well as pictures of my best groups with the SA to contrast.

I will share when I get to the range. I’m mostly interested in controllability increasing repeatability, I found the SA was challenging to get repeated shots off without egregious follow through timing. You almost have to be lucky and maintain a hold on something really really visible.

My SR absolutely HATES hornady SST's. I could even get 3-4 MOA with Chinese surplus which was better than what I could get out of the Hornady stuff for some reason.

However it shot Federal Blue box very well. Heres an example of what it can do with a 10 round group. This was very representative of what it was capable of with that ammo.

Funny how particular guns can be! A 1000 dollar Bergara i got recently wouldnt pattern Remington Core Lokt into a group under 3.5 MOA. But thankfully will shoot reloads into sub MOA.

Hey T81 M underfolder guys, I was looking at my handguard and wondering if maybe it had cracked...couldn't share a picture of the top handguard for me to compare? I know TI will go good for it, I just can't quite tell if it's one of those hairline things or not a split at all.

First of all, let's try to keep this clean please, no trolling, no bashing. Yes, we all know it's a cheaply built, overpriced POS made in China.
I have no problem with owners posting problems with their rifle looking for advice or help but if you don't own one I don't care what your opinion is of the rifle, I'm sure you've already posted it in another thread and we've all read it so please go back to masterbating rather than clog up the thread trying to provoke an argument (there are plenty of other threads already full of that).

You don't have to own a T-81 to post questions or comments, I just don't want to have to read through post after post of negative comments from someone who has never even seen one.

Hopefully if this thread can be kept clean it can become the T-81 sticky :)

Thank you.

I'll start off, all these pics have been posted in other threads already and I'll add more later as I get more time with the rifle.

I've modified the sights by removing the top bar and widening the V for a little better sight picture.

Modified an AK Pmag to work in the rifle.
Lower the front lip and trim the sides a little where you can see in the pic, then lower the back notch to allow the bolt carrier to pass through. I also removed a little material from the follower where it hits the rivet to allow it to insert on a closed bolt.

I also modified a Magpul AK MOE+ grip to fit. A little crude and sloppy with the dremel but it works and is solid.

So far accuracy with Cabela's corrosive 1500 round crate stuff has been around 8 moa and while nothing impressive it will do for a fun basher around my acreage and wandering the bush with something that looks AKish.

50 yards, meh. I'll eventually buy some different ammo to try in it but I didn't buy it for accuracy so I don't really care.

And my T-81 sitting next to the real deal. The AK felt more solid even though the weight felt very similar.

Sorry, I am late to this party.

Shooting eight inch groups will probably bother you after a while. You could try pulling the bullets and with the pile of powder weigh it and make Mexican match from it. I used to think it was just fine to waste Cz surplus ammo from an SKS but felt guilty about it after the fact. I even tried semi reloads with H4895 standing in for the original powder, original primed cases and M43 bullets, which are also hard to find now.

I wish H4895 was available, however that is not the case around here.
