Hello, I have a clean old Remington 721 that I'd like to have properly reblued. The gun has no pitting or rust whatsoever. I've been told that a high gloss finish is out of the question because the trigger guard is stamped metal and not forged so the bluing will never match the bluing on the barrel. For this reason I've been told to go with some sort of matte black finish. Any suggestions who is good at working on these sorts of projects? Thanks.

You want a hot blue job?
I don't think you can prep it for hot bluing by bead blasting it.

You can.. it makes for a duller matte blue... and all the flaws are still there...

After blasting with sand I like to wire brush it with a soft stainless wheel. It gives it a nicer finish... not so rough and it does not mark quite as easily but still a matte finish.

And you learn something new everyday...:)
