Is there such a thing as to many extra mags ?

I like to have 3 for any rifle that takes mags.
Some that are harder to come by like 527 mags I have a few more then that.

*too. ;)
If bolt action, less...least 3 per. Any Semi, at least as many as you could 'loose' in a "situation". If you carry 7, have another 7 available kinda thing, in the heat of the moment, you are sure to loose some {or allot}.
In general, allot of people I talk to, have 5/6 for pistol, & at least 10 for a SA rifle. Esp. with bs "5" rnds. Makes us have more on hand, just to save time at the range.

It really depends on how much storage space someone has , and how much money someone can afford to tie up in spare mags . Unfortunately , with the Trudeau government being as unstable as it is , lots of folks have been stock piling in case Trudeau has a bad dream , and starts prohibiting more than he already has ; so we tend to stock pile while we can .

"Too Much" for mags, like ammo and other supplies, is the point where you no longer own your stuff but it owns you. If it holds you back and makes you stay put at home when everything else says it's time to pack the go-bags and get the hell out of Dodge, you've crossed into Too Much.

If you have more than you can chuck in the truck and can't make yourself leave it behind when it's time to evacuate, that's the line.

The truck probably won’t be starting when it is time to evacuate… EMP

never too many. i only have 3 or 4 for each firearm i have that takes mags. after i see some pics here i am wishing i had more

I struggle with this.

My gut says 4-6 (per gun) for regular use, plus another 2 for spares in case one is lost/broken while you source a replacement for the broken one.

But if there is a ban in the next 1.5 years, how will I know how many I need for the rest of my life (plus kids etc.)

My often followed rule is thus:
Bolt action rifles, minimum three mags
Semi-auto rifles, be they rimfire or centrefire, minimum 5
mags, be they range toys or hunting rifles. This rule might be thrown out the window if that rifle model is/was discontinued.
