Hey, guys.

I have a Danish Garand, in Mint condition, hardly been shot, and has matching bayonet, sling, frog, etc. The only problem is that the stock is not original. Normally Danish stocks would have "MT" Stamped on usually the right side of the butt portion, but mine doesn't and I believe the original stock was taken off. My question is, where can I possibly find a complete original danish stock (3 pieces)? There has to be some laying around because it's not like these rifles were scarce. Any leads????

Where did you hear that rubbish about "MT" being stamped on a Dane stock?!?!

The ONLY things that positively ID a stock as Danish are:

1) If it's made of beech. (but not all are)
2) It has a sticker in the barrel channel (but not all do)
3) The pistol grip is inlet for a unit disk (not all are)
4) It has a rifle's serial number stamped into the bottom of the butt (pretty much all have this)

Take the butt plate off and see if there is a stamp that looks like SILE.
The original stock would have been Itallian made.....just like the rest of the gun.:)

Not necessarily. Many Dane M1's were USGI WW2 leftovers as well. Many USGI walnut stocks are legitimately found on Danish guns, always with the gun's serial number stamped under the butt - though it's possible the stock is mis-matched as well.

I assumed when he said Danish Garand he meant Danish Garand.....

The "MT" marking reference confuses me as well ...

Check out the Denmark - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=27.

There's a 70 pic photo montage of:

This one is in beautiful condition, "all correct" and "all matching", so you could examine the photo montage and compare the butt on it.

Hope it helps ... :)

Danish M1

My Dane 42 Springer has the Dane applied serial number on grip and is dark walnut with VAR 66 barrel. Had it to range yesterday for first time in 4-5 years. Forgot how accurate it was. Best damn $300 I've spent.
Cheers

Hitzy, I understand where you're coming from - there IS a difference between a "Danish Issue" M1 and a "Danish Contract" M1, but the original posted didn't really specify ;)

Hey guys.

Well the year of the Garand I have is 1955 - can't remember the serial # on it. As for the stock, where can I find an original Dane stock then? I know the rifle will never be truly original, however, I'd like it as close as possible.

Cheers!

What make of M1 is it? SA? HR? IH? BD? PB?

FKF stands for the danish words "Forsvarets Krigs Forvaltning", difficult to translate into english, which would mean something like, "The Defence War Department". In english speaking countries, it would simply mean "Department of Defence".

Wish I could post pics, but unfortunately the military doesn't appreciate personal weapons in the shacks ;-) It's FKF, definately danish.. I know the stock isn't original, no markings and it's oversized.

If its walnut and oversized it is probably a Boyds. They can be made to look pretty good. Don't sweat it, 90% of M1's have been rebuilt numerous times and wil not be 100% original. If the stock is Beech and oversized it would be Danish and would be correct for a replacement.
First is my Dane Breda M1 with original SILE Itallian stock.
Next 2 pics are Dane Beretta M1 with Boyds stock. I actually sold the correct Danish Beech wood stock set.....it was some of the ugliest wood I have ever seen.:)

The MT marking is Italian for sure. I have an unissued one myself but it has no rifle to go with it yet. The question is wether the MT was used on Danish issue rifles or only Italian rifles used by Italians. The one i have is for an Italian .308 which were Garands shortened 1/2 inch. I also had a Breda (FKF marked receiver) but no marking on the beech stock except for the matching serial #. I traded it to 375RUM. I don't know if he still has it but maybe if he does he can look for markings.
