250 grain cast for 375 Winchester

Hi All

Anyone have or know of some reloading data for the 375 Winchester, I am casting 250 grain Bullets using the Lee Mould.
I have powder H4198 and H4895. I normally use 4198 for 200 grain FN and I see on Hodgson that I could use H4895 for 220 grain but I can't find anything for 250 grain cast.

I also have this from the Lyman Reloading book, but it's for 255 grain.

fellow 375 big bore owner here,
i use 4198 aka AR2207 for all of my loads, i tried some varget once but was no good, so not sure how good the 4895 would be?

im using a 245/255 Cast, commercial hard cast stuff an my loads were in the ballpark of "hot" 38-55 loads......... off top of my head 28gr ?? but could push them faster without leading as were coated in hy tek or other similiar commercial stuff, wanted less boom for under 80m deer hunting an loaded it right down.

PS data for 255 will be fine, as will 245..... it seriously wont be any different, start 1gr lower if you feel the need...
 
greatwhite: You can load your 250-grain bullets, using.38-55 load data. The online Hodgdon Reloading site has loads for both H4198 and H4895.

Yes I have that but aren't 375 Win brass slightly longer and will that make much of a difference? Can I still start at the lowest and work it out?

As others have said use the 255 gr data for the 250 gr bullet. I have modified 30-30 cases that I load to max for 38-55 which is above minimum for 375 win. I seat the bullet out so it is 20 thou off the lands in 375 win and also safe in the 38-55 as it’s chamber is longer. My 30-30 straightened cases I know are safe in both rifles. Basically a plinking load I can use in both rifles. I am using IMR 4198 and an original Winchester 250 gr mould.
 
greatwhite: Along with SniderShooter, I suggest starting at the maximum 250-grain, .38-55 load. For either of your powder choices. As far as case dimensions go, the .375 case measures 2.020" (SAAMI). For 'modern', ie: Winchester 38-55: 2.085" (SAAMI). The 250-grain slug is fairly long, so some attention will still need to go to c.o.a.l. Shouldn't be much of an issue, but bears mentioning.

ps: If you wish to start with a milder load, you could use mid-range .38-55 load data and work up from there. A quick rule of thumb...2 grains under maximum. Your rifle will soon tell you what it likes.

this guy covers it well.......

wont be any issue using 38-55 load data the beauty of the 375 win is that you can load the jacketed bullets up wayyy more than the 38-55 if you need that thump.

i used to load 220gr hornadys before they became hard to find down here....... you can get a good 2100fps or so out of it in a model 94..... real good thump close range
 
Fully agree. H322 works very well in either caliber. One powder I really liked in various cast-bullet loads, was SR 4759. Too bad this powder is discontinued. Still have some on hand. Mostly used in .45-70, these days. Closest powder to it is 5744. Not much for choice lately....and maybe for some time in the future, with powder being hard to source. Still, both H4198 and H4895 should deliver good results.
