Just a note to folks:

in the last 2 weeks, i've been through 5 boxes of Federal Powershock 12ga 2 3/4in 6 shot shells. out of 5 boxes i've had approx. 13 duds/squibs. i'd pull the trigger expecting bang, recoil. but instead i'd get a whoonk, and i could count the shot. i took the remainder of the boxes into the local shop. we weighed the shells and another 3 were 10-14 grains underweight. i took them out the next time, and sure enough. they were duds. just putting it out there, it looks like Federal has had a bad batch go through.:slap:

no i haven't. i only own the one. it's a mossberg maverick. however, i also regularly send the Federal Field and Range rounds through it, and have never had any problems. the other difference i did notice between the Field and Range and the Powershock was extraction. the Field and Range extract much easier, faster and smoother than the Powershock. my friend shooting with me noticed the same, so it's not my technique of pumping the action. lol.

I normally use Federal Powershock 7mm Rem Mag. 150gr in my rifle and have yet to have a misfire, and it's pretty accurate and i don't really have extraction problems. i figure it's just a problem with the shot shells.
 
I'm not aware of a "Powershock" shotshell. Gameshok perhaps?

It could be the shells. I've had squibs before including a bad batch of Winchester AA.

But what were the conditions when you were shooting them. In extreme cold shotshells can freeze up and not fire properly.

Have only ever shot Federal Gold Medals ... never a complaint.

PITA, but I think I'd contact Federal directly - not inconceivable for a manufacturer to have a bad run slip through ... particularly on an
economy/promotional line.
 
Might be some overall quality control. I had bought three boxes of Speed-Shok, 3" #2 with really soft brass. About half or more of each box I had a hell of a time extracting. I ran a test with two guns, both 870s, shot a bunch of clay out behind the barn, mixed some old known good shells with the newer problem batch, both guns had problems extracting the shells from the 'bad' batch. Talked to the local distributor and in the process of making things right.
