Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

A while back, I asked about the creation of a 1913 stock mount with a scope mount point built into it, an alternative to a side mount or handguard mount. Finally saw something similar, on a shotgun of all things. A YouTuber built a custom build with a Chisel Machining Remington mount. Would something similar to that below, without the pistol grip, and with more conventional 1913 stock like a Midwest Alpha AK 1913 stock make sense and provide adequate eye relief with a red dot or prism site, if the mounting point was elevated enough to clear the dust cover for removal? Thanks!

If someone doesn't want to mess with adding the side mount pins, and is worried about the top part of the TI M-Lok handguard loosing zero or they want to use the wood top handguard for ease of cleaning, like JasonGTA, would something like this Ruger PC Carbine M-Lok side red dot mount form Midwest Industries work, not this one, but one made to provide clearance for the Type 81s wood upper handguard to be removable?

pretty sure my barrel is a little bent, or at the very least the front sight is canted.

Are any significant modifications required to make this safety work with the master mount? Their website warns of retention issues.

its a little sloppy. I tightened the paddle down a lot, I also bent it down a little and dremel'd notches on the receiver for S and F. feels identical with Murray's rail now. otherwise, there was no modification needed for the rail itself.

How much work is required to fit that grip?

Was at the range today with my SR. Took me a while to dial in my 9x40 POSP. They are kind of finicky. But it paid off at the end. I only did 5 shot groups (5 rounds mag limit). At 50 yards I had 4 shots under 1 inch plus one flyer. At 100 yards almost the same with a 2 inch group plus one flyer. All with Barnaul FMJ. I did not try any other ammo but from my SKS experience I am pretty sure that the groups would have been much worse with red box Norinco or surplus ammo. I consider myself an average shooter.

GreasyGus Hand Grip. I got it unfinished and finished it myself. It's a nice hard wood and took the same stain I used on the OEM furniture a bit differently.

Flyers aren't - they are indicative of your overall (or growing) mean point of impact, especially with this rifle and surplus ammo combo.

If you found you were chasing the zero, it is due to not firing enough rounds into the group to get MPI in the first place.

Five rounds is often enough to gain a good indication of mpi with a rifle/ammo combo capable of good/excellent precision, but with these things, you are looking at 10 as a minimum, and probably more like 15 or 20 rounds.

Do you own a POSP scope?

Besides, I don't really care much about your comments.

No I don't own one. I've played with them and shot with them.
Does ownership of something change how it works or how a rifle groups?

What didn't you like? Did you find them condescending? The point I was making wasn't meant to be.

I was just posting about my experience. I did not say something you may or may not have interpreted out of it.

Just do your thing, I do mine.

How would you feel if I posted that I would never do a deal with somebody with less than 100 % feedback?

If you don't want feedback from the remainder of the forum, why make a public post?
