Type-81 pictures, range reports, and modifications thread

I messaged sigmaco and asked if he was still in business. He stated he is selling off what he had in stock but was not manufacturing. I managed to pick up a zhukov stock adapter that was finished just didn't make it out for anodizing. I got it a week later, gave it a quick shot of paint and attempted to install it. This is where things got interesting.

When comparing this adapter to others, it appears it has some different cut outs and is missing the bevelled edge which would help compress the locking studs before locking into the closed position. The square cut outs (which are different than other sigmaco adaptors) is what the locking studs actually lock into...which brings me to another problem. Once locked in, you need a punch to unlock it....

Does anyone have this version? If so what am I missing? I am sure I can make it work with the time and a file.

i have the one with the anodized bevel version and honestly, without it. it will wear out the plastic locking studs quicker on the magpul. let others chime in if they have an anodized no bevel version or it just in these end of production version.

Yeah if I don't bevel the edges on both the main piece and the sharp square cut out, the plastic studs would probably wear out in no time. I am sure I can salvage this part and make it work but dam, what a dumb design.

the original design was perfect, dont know why it went backwards but it was good you brought it up so others would file the bevel in before painting.

Yes, heavily file a bevel on both the leading edges and the outward side of that square cut out the locking tabs pop into. I might get around to it eventually but will just leave it in the fixed position for now. who knows, I have a pre order for a t81 -1913 pic rail adaptor and have a zhukov to 1913 adaptor sitting on my shelf. If I don't get around to fixing this sigmaco one before the 1913 piece comes in I probably never will LOL

Can anyone tell me which grips (AK, VZ 58, etc.) fit the 81M and where are people buying (or importing) these parts from?

Thanks!

If you look upthread, a local company is 3D-priting grips, and someone actually posted an open source design. I have read previously that VZ grips from a Lithuanian company that ships to Canada will also work. A local Candian YouTuber is also making custom wood grips for the Type 81, along with other wood furniture, in finished and unfinished states; just search Type 81 reverse dong on YouTube for his hilarious videos :p

GreasyGus on YouTube showcases the Type 81 in both fixed and under folding stock form, the latter firing folded from the hip as well as shouldered. Enjoy GreasyGus' "Another Weekend w the Boys" :)

Here are some pics of the refinished LMG wood. I am not 100% sure, but it might be different wood than tne "M" the grain was hard to bring up and only in few places. It also stained a bit different than the other furniture i did using the same stain.
LmG is not mine, did it for a friend :)
