22/45 Mark 3 mods

Hi, I did a few searches and couldn’t find anything that helps me, but it seems strange as this shouldn’t be an uncommon problem. I hope. Thx in advance.

I have a Ruger mk 3 22/45 and would have loved to upgrade to a mk4 hunter but that option is obviously off the table. Looking to buy a longer fluted barrel with fibre optic sights and do the mod to put on 1911 grips. Any idea on sponsors or businesses that could help?

Barrel might be hard as on a Ruger MK series pistol. The top end is the serialized part, unlike most pistols where the frame is.

The grips is kinda easy if you have any mechanically ability. I did it on a MK3 2245, hardest part was grinding the faux grips off and being flat.

And you can change out the front sight.

I believe that the mk3 and mk4 have different take down systems so they are not compatible.

Why would you buy a mk4 frame?

Just considering all my options with the mk3, it looks like very few. Hopefully a change of government might eventually give me some more.

Best option-

Ditch the plastic 22-45 grip frame.

Purchase a MkII frame(steel) for the Euro/Heel magazine latch system.

The MkIII/1911 magazine latch system leaves alot to be desired.

For your situation, I'd consider getting your existing barrel fluted and the sight set of your choice added. Get the muzzle threaded while you're at it, if you want to play with muzzle devices (mostly just aesthetics, but it can change the balance too).

I'd ask Black Box, mostly because I always ask them first, but there are probably lots of shops that could do this work.
