It wasn't the windiest day I have shot on, but winds gusting to over 60km had high house targets striking the ground, as far as 20 feet in front on the low house. The gusts actually moved shooters around on the station. I shot the 28 gauge, and everyone else shot the 12, and 24 was the high score for the day.

We enjoyed the wind at our club. Always good for a few laughs and a windy day of shooting beats a day of no shooting every time.

There was a lot of laughing going on when targets suddenly dropped or climbed. Everyone lost some targets, but it was a good challenge. We are soon going to have a range outage , so we aren't going to miss an opportunity to shoot.

I enjoy shooting in adverse conditions as it isn't always perfect weather when I hunt and I shoot skeet and trap just to keep myself in the swing of things for hunting season for the most part. I do draw the line at rain any more. No point soaking my guns and gear when I can just go another day, same with hunting now too. If I get up in the predawn light if its pouring rain I go back to bed or find something to do until it clears up then hit the field afterward. This is our first night of the season for the club to open. Guns are cased and gear is loaded in the truck. It's windy but I don't think we are pushing 60K gusts today, mid 30's at most.

Has anyone ever patterned their gun during our current Camrose wind season to see what happens to the load?

I have.

I stapled Costco scrap cardboard on various places high and low on the farm. High on the barn, low on the granaries.

My pattern analysis used a Berlin Wansee over plate to measure percentages which were then to be studied statistically.

I also used the 15 dollar Princess Auto Anemometer to measure windspeed.

The shells were a 1400 fps 1 ounce load in 7 1/2.

Results:

Pfffft. Random results. The heaver loads are now going to be tested.

The patterns were scattered from here to kingdom come.

And Mister Spank. I was not on any mind altering substance.:p:p

We had a bit of wind last Sunday at the club...moved the low house targets up pretty good..sometimes a 3 or 4 foot fast difference...always good for a laugh. Saw 1..25 straight only on the squad behind us.
I tried out my 28 ga for the first time on skeet and trap. Only used it for sporting clays a couple times myself...the grand kids enjoy it tremendously tho !!

1st round...20..surprise
2nd round...15...lol & wtf kinda surprise was that
3rd round...23...wowsers...this is fun
4th round...16...lol and wtf again
trap....a humbling 11 ...I thought, nahh, it's the little gun...not enuff power. That was untill I broke a couple hard rights wayyyy out there from station 1...lmao Soon realized it aint the gun...it's the nut on the back of the stock !! Can't wait to try it out again.

I typically shoot the 28 on windy days, the 410 when it is calmer, and the 20 for doubles only. I don't feel the slightest bit handicapped using the 28 for skeet, and if you are on ,the 410 isn't as much of a handicap as many people think.

Sunday was 30km, so nothing like the 60km, so I shot the 410. I managed one clean round, but dropped the high on the station 6 double the next round, so no 50.

30-50km winds again tonight, made for a challenge, and with plenty of equipment staging, we will likely get shut down soon, as the lagoon work begins.
