New Target Rifle

I have the dashers they multiply. One thing I noticed with the 105gr Berger, is wind drift. The range I shoot, had the area logged and resulted in a lot more wind.
The 6.5 and 7s consistently show less wind drift, so now working with 6.5 Creedmoor.
I think it boils down to where you plan to shoot and the prevailing conditions.

Building a great rifle maintains sanity.

I have a 6.5 CM and a 284W for FClass open now just looking for a NON windy day shooter and a F TR 308 now too . lol RJ

I chose the 6GT over the Dasher because I wanted to run my existing 308 AISC mags and not worry about monkeying with feed lips or having to buy special mags. My CRF Origin feeds the 6GT perfectly from the dozen or so mags I own.
Other than that there doesn't seem to be much difference between the two. The GT can be pushed a little faster, but alot of us run the 105-109s at speeds that a hot Dasher can reach.
They're both accurate, both are super easy to load for, both have good brass available (with Lapua coming out with 6GT brass soon).

I'm a big enough fan of the ### tiger to have no interest in a Dasher. But I still want to get a 6BR barrel spun up.
I say flip a coin.

Have you ever thought of the 22BR? Built one the end of last year and I wish I would of jumped on this boat a long time ago.

Shooting the 88s with this and its a fun gun to play with.

My shooting partner shoots a 6gt on our 1000 yard range running I believe 115gr pills, he shoots single digits on calmer days, but the wind does hinder him compared to my 7 at the 1000 yard board. Today he put 5 under 7” with a score of 46/50 with it today, pretty cool little cartridge.

Sorry I’m of no help other then he’s loven the one he had built. After spending a day at the local shoot, my wheels are turning on these small 6mm’s.

Thxs Bud would you ask him what twist he has I’m thinking it’s a 7 ? Also what contour lenght barrel please and brand ? Thxs RJ

Its not clear what you plan to do with the rifle, but if its for PRS, I would go with a 223...

But not a typical 223 chamber.

In a 308 length length action you can run 88s or 90s seated out to 2.700" long and get velocities between 2850 and 2900 FPS. You will get flatter long range trajectory than the 6MM and less recoil.

If you use the metal MDT mags with the plastic inset, I can explain how you can modify it to hold your cartridges at 2.700" long.

I built one and it shoots between 1/4 and 3/8 MOA.

A buddy built a 6 Dasher and the recoil on my 223 is considerably less making it easier to spot trace and impacts.

Even at 800 yards, you cannot tell the difference in group size.

If you do the math seriously there's no reason to go with a 6mm for PRS any more.

You just need to set the rifle up to shoot 223 rounds at 2.700" long.

If you can find the action, a Wichita rifle isn't so bad in a single shot with three lug bolt face.
Models of 1250(?) or 1375.
Makes for a nice Palma style rifle. If you prefer optics, I think it needs two Remington 700 forward bases on top?
Surely the current & available Barnard action is a new age version, to my eyes.

this thread is about 2 cartridges the 6 dasher and 6 gt RJ

With lapua starting to produce 6gt brass I would go with that. The GT always shot great but never loved Alpha brass maybe the new OCD stuff is better but the first stuff was crap. Dashers always hammer as well but finding lapua 6br brass to form it out of is not easy right now. What ever you choose just make sure the reamer that is used has enough neck clearance unless you want to neck turn.
