The owner didn't know and offered it up in trade for some labour they want me to do.
I was pretty sure it was a model 70, but the cheek swell and black cap on grip and forend had me second guessing that it was a Remington.

That pretty ODD ! as the maufactures name and model and cartridge is stamped right on it FFS ! :p  RJ

I had bought one new in 308 Win, in about 1997, from a small town Saskatchewan store - I think along the barrel will be a scroll that ID's the maker, model and chambering - does not mean the stock, butt plate or recoil pad, Length of Pull, or other things may have been or may not have been altered since new. Our son, born 1978, has it now. I have a couple others - 6.5x55, 300 H&H and 338 Win Mag - slight differences in scroll marks, but actions all about the same - push feed (no external claw extractor, not "controlled round" feeding), and with three position horizontal swing safety. I've taken many dozens head of game with that model of rifle. (White Tail and Mule Deer, Elk). I also have a made-in 1955 "pre-64" Win Model 70 in 30-06 - has similar horizontal swing three position safety, but that one has the external claw extractor - I have never had that one out hunting.
