I didn't find a lot of stuff and accessories on the web for 597 compared to 10-22. I found some carbon barrels and 30 rounds mag... but nothing about laminated colored stocks. What are you guys modifying on your 597? They seem to me a great alternative to 10-22.

I've been looking for "stuff" too. Unfortunately, I can't find much on the Internet neither. I'm hoping that companies will pick up on the market and start producing a variety of accessories as the popularity of the 597 grows.

So far my mods are a VQ Target Trigger, a VQ Extractor and "home made" barrel floating. :D
Next I will work on the stock but I haven't decided on the finish yet.

Oh, yes and I've bought a Weaver style scope rail too. That's pretty easy to find.

I bought "Yellow Jacket" 597 and she is dressed up with all good stuff. Heavy barrel floating free, awesome laminate stock with comfy grip and veawer rail installed. After about 8 months of having it I can't think of anything else to add to the package. On the other hand friend of mine bought 1022 and now he doesn't want to talk about it. I guess all that aftermarket 1022 stuff is vital part of owning 1022, it just won't shoot without them little fixes.

Yes, the Yellow Jacket" stock is a good idea. Someone was selling them on eBay for $179.00. I almost bought one but changed my mind in the last moment. It's way too nice to start drilling holes on it for bipod and sling unless someone else does it first and I can look at the pictures. :D
I don't mind drilling the factory stock.

I drilled mine. It is slinged and "bipoded" now. Close your eyes and go for England.

The yellow jacket runs about $600 to your door........you can built one hell of a 10/22 for $600 that would put it to shame :)

Hitzy,

There has never been a problem with the 597-s. It was the first generation of ammo clips (plastic) that made a bad name to the 597. It was impossible to load the clip up to its full capacity and of course there was a feeding problem due to the ammo stuck in the clip. (It was working fine if you didn't load more than 5-6 shots.) That's why some people mistakenly think that it's not a reliable rifle. Since then Remington has worked out the bugs with the 2nd generation clip (metal) and now the 3rd generation clips work flawlessly.
Again, it's nothing to do with the 597 itself.

BTW, even the old plastic clips can be fixed by the owner so they are still very much usable. :p

Does yours actually function? I hear that's a bit of a problem with the 597's......:p

I have a 597 HB with the laminated stock and it's a great gun with no issues what-so-ever. Every bit as good as a 10-22 and then some

Nothing bad to say as also a 10-22 Deluxe Sporter in the mix along with two Remington 552 Deluxe Speedmasters.

Buyers choice but don't hesitate on buying the 597 based on " old news " regarding functioning.
