Was wondering if anyone could explain the rear site setup on this TIKKA T3X.

I'm curious as to why it's on in this way.

It seems like an added production expense for a reason I can't figure out.

Have you used them or do you only have that Pic as a reference? The colored inserts(which you don't see in this pic) help with rapid target acquisition.

Yes they are Fibre optic sights made by TRU GLO ,I believe, but why the elaborate angled mount and not attached to barrel like a Remington 700 style m

Research battue sights, that’s what these are. It’s a kind of express sight.
The ramp is for your peripheral vision like a shotgun rib.
They are specialized for shooting running game in thick woods, which is more akin to shotgunning that the rifle shooting most of us are used to.

Ah, I see now.

battue/bă-too͞′, -tyoo͞′/

noun

The beating of woods and bushes to flush game.

Very coarse sighting system, the front fiber optic bead on my battue pretty much covers a whole 12" plate at 100yds.
Shorter range proposition for sure.

Bingo!!!

Next question is, can it be removed easily ?, hiw is it attached to the barrel ?

I want the gun for the shorter barrel, not the sights

The rifle arrived and I removed both front and rear sights.
This will allow me to mount my scope nice and low.
I now have for threaded holes to fill with filler crews.

Does anyone know the thread size for the mounting screws that hold on the front and rear sight assemblies ?

Looks like that battue sight rail and tall front sight would be handy and comfortable to use, along the lines of tacti buis
Often stocks aren't the proper shape for a cheekweld with low-profile iron sights

Larger the better for target acquisition , size doesn't matter with a proper 6oclock sight picture

They actually quite a nice setup.
There are red fiber optic rectangles along the rear rail that lead your eye to the rear sight quickly.
I bought it because it has a bit shorter of a barrel and more suited to what I'll use it for.

I'd love to find a wooden stock for it.

I disagree with your bolded statement.

Accuracy suffers when you have a massive blob at the bottom of your 12" kill zone. Can you make a snap shot on medium game at 100yds? ...absolutely. Is it the ideal general purpose sight? absolutely not, these are specialized sights for close-in, moving game.
