I'm still on the fence as lot's comes into play, I am shooting both Saskatchewan and Alberta Provincials plus 2 club shoots in Saskatchewan, the Canadians is in the middle of those shoots so that would mean some 6,000 KM of driving plus 4,800 targets and shooting 5 weeks in a row, it's to much driving and shooting for this old guy.

When I look at the cost of travel, hotels, targets and ammo for the Canadians it comes to about $2,700 to shoot all 1,000 targets so it's getting up there, then there is the 30 hrs of driving, I almost have myself convinced to pass on the Canadians unless I can buddy up with someone from around here to share the driving and hotels expense.

It is the intention of our club again this year to sponsor some of our juniors at Vancouver and that will mean some parents will be going as well. We have fundraising programs in place and some donations that we will use to sponsor them but it cost around $10k for us to send them to the Canadians last year and I expect this year it will be more than that.

I am very fortunate to have a wonderful wife and a motor home. She said we should go to the Canadians. I can take the bus to down town Vancouver. Can I have your credit card? You think trap shooting is expensive? LOL

Well, you could always do a Grand Slam on the Provincials by attending the BC Provincials in Radium over the Labor Day weekend. Just across the AB/BC border, (well maybe not quite from Lloydminster) but certainly a lot shorter than driving to Vancouver. Hotels are going to be cheaper, great sporting clays terrain, format not yet finalized but about 400 targets;- you might want to put it on your calendar.

I believe that is sporting clays provincials and I only shoot a bit of recreational sporting clays and I suck at it, the BC Trap Shooting Provincials was held already on May Long weekend at the Okanogan Trap and skeet club, very well attended from the looks of it 111 entries in the championship singles

Correct, it is sporting clays. What threw me off when I first looked at this thread is that the Canadian Sporting Clays Nationals is also in Vancouver this year, it is about 1000 targets if you shoot everything, and is also sandwiched between the SK and AB provincial sporting clays championships so it looked like the same event. Appears the national trap competition is called the Canadians while the sporting clays is called the Nationals.

I'm shooting this weekend in Edmonton at the City Championships, I talked to a number of guy's that were at the Canadians and although the Vancouver gun club is in somewhat shabby shape and struggling to stay afloat like so many clubs in Canada, they did have delays and problems getting people registered and had some hiccups with the trap help and break downs with the machines they said all in all the shoot was OK. Vancouver gun club should be ashamed that they couldn't get enough members to help and keep things running smooth for the national championship, the guys that were running the shoot worked tirelessly and did the best they could under the circumstances. They had over 170 shooters which is the largest crowd at Canadians in many years so that caused delays and very long days by the time the shoot offs were completed.
Alberta shooters were well represented and clean up the majority of the trophies which bodes well for our APTA program both young and old, the up and coming shooters did very well as did the seasoned shooters. A local Albertan won the singles, doubles and handicap championship as well as HAA and HOA which is quite an accomplishment, well done Brad.
My youngest granddaughter was graduating so that was the deciding factor in my skipping Canadians this year I stayed home and did the proud papa thing, family first shooting later, the money I would have spent to attend the Canadians will cover the cost of the next 4 weeks when I shoot the City Championships, Saskatchewan provincials, Alberta Provincials / Western zones and Kindersley SATA shoot, close to 4,000 KM travelling and 3,500 rounds of ammo in 4 weekends, it's gonna wear this old guy out especially given the heat this weekend and it's supposed to be hotter next weekend in Regina, but I love the smell of burning gun powder.
